The Hall: Jordan Gross

I remember when we drafted him (it was one of the years the Vikings screwed up and let 3 teams pick when there time ran out).  Utah was still in the Mountain West Conference, and some poster came on here and said he was a wasted pick and he would suck.  That he only played against little guys in the Mountain West and he would get run over by NFL lineman and he "knew" because "he knew football better than anyone else on this board".

Just for future posters about posting about draft picks before they have played a game, watch what you say.  Someone always remembers the stupid sh!t you say and they will throw it back in your face and make you look like an idiot, all you "CMC can't run between the tackles" guys.

What a great dude.  Gross was the one of those guys who becomes a team legend, and I'm glad the organization is now taking the time to recognize it.  If Greg Little turns out to be the next Jordan Gross I don't know if this team could pay him a higher compliment.

So, this raises a real question about more than just our Hall. Is Jordan Gross HoF worthy? Bear in mind that most linemen that make it aren't incredibly well-known compared to skill position players or defenders.

And yet, there they go. Gross had a really long run, and played starting OT in the NFL his whole career. He saw a team to the big dance and quite a few playoff appearances. He was a good run blocker and pass blocker, and he went up against some of the best names in the game during his tenure. Never caused a bit of trouble, served his whole time for the same team.

Will our team's representative to the Hall ever put his name out there? He's eligible now, and while he isn't a first ballot kind of guy, there's got to be some respect for the man in the room. So few can go in, and so many are eligible, though, could he even make it into the conversation?

Unfortunately, I don't think his career made it up to NFL HoF standards.  He played just about as well as anyone could and not hit those standards, but he only had one All Pro, and three Pro Bowls.  He probably needed a few more to make it up to HoF standards.

By way of comparison, Steve Smith had five Pro Bowls, two first team All Pro and two second team All Pro.

I don't think that failing to be in the NFL HoF in any way diminishes JG's contributions to Charlotte and the Panthers.  He was a giant as a player, at teammate and a person.

First, great video.

Second, no, I don't think that he will make it.  Need to play in the NFCE, or win a SB or two if you are one of the "unsung hero's".

Great, great Panther, and I'm glad that we are doing this for those guys.
