Yeah, the problem with Johnson is he's not a good athlete or a good defender. He is basically a one-dimensional shooter. That kind of removes him from the 3 and D role. He has an extremely limited skill set, so that really does project as being a bench/role player. That is why he was projected so low and that is why that pick was almost universally panned.

I can't explain the Washington pick. I just simply do not understand what the fug we are doing.

Same athlete as Washington

Good ball handler for a 4 guy.  Yes his D is limited.  But not sure how great Washington's is either.

Washington at least has some versatility and upside. I don't see that at all in Johnson. He's basically a one trick pony. It's a damn good trick but he isn't a guy you can keep on the floor because he will struggle consistently on defense(which he did in college already).

Neither of them are good picks.

We are hearing rumors of a trade that didn’t happen to move up

anybody know any specifics?

Not really a rumour, Mitch said they tried to trade up but didn't want to send that much draft capital. I'm guessing probably in the 6-8 range and team probably wanted two firsts or maybe three for the move.

Pretty ridiculous that the AD/MKG draft is still screwing us over........ until the Hornets get their sh¡t together, it’s hard to give a crap about the nba.....it’s depressing.

I mean hell, look at the Pelicans , not only they miraculously land Zion.... they get a huge pull for AD. And the Hornets can’t even let MKG walk for free...... it’s f’n depressing.....

Let’s not kid ourselves, Mitch’s options are limited right now.  PJ was the right pick there.  The French guy is very raw and PJ is a really good overall player who is ascending.  Good draft where we were picking.  Even warming to Cody Martin who played some point.  Taking a flier on McDaniels was a great move that late.

Hard to get All Stars picking late lottery in this draft but solid draft.

Mitch referred to Cody as a ball-handling guard in his presser which threw me for a loop because that's not how I remembered him. Always thought it was Caleb Martin who was the guard twin and Cody who had the more low post game. Admittedly didn't watch many Nevada games.

He averaged almost 5 assists per game at Nevada though. For 6-7 that's pretty good playmaking ability. His highlights definitely showcase handles. He has some defensive upside too. Not sold he will be a bucket getter, but I'm warming up to him.

I mean, what good is draft capital to us? I can say with complete certainty that it wouldn't matter. We would have traded up for someone real dumb or we would have parted with future draft capital that we will inevitably waste.

I don't think it is we who are kidding ourselves. That was a terrible fuging draft. Here is the thing, at least if you have to gamble in an area of the draft where most of the prospects are flawed, aim high. Don't take a rotational guy that we could have just simply signed as a free agent 100x over. That is what is so goddamn frustrating.

So which player should we have gambled on?

I absolutely would have rather had Cam Reddish. The Cam Johnson pick was probably the worst in the first round, without question. That was a guy that was going to be available at 20-30. It was a strange draft, for sure. Little plummeted, Bol Bol plummeted and guys like Bazley and Johnson got massively overdrafted.

You know who I would have rather had above Washington? Doumbouya, Alexander-Walker, Bitadze. Hell, how about trade down for Little or Kabengele. And...Cody Martin?? Hey, maybe go draft Bol Bol instead of THE WRONG fuging MARTIN TWIN.

That's a novel concept, maybe actually shoot for someone that has high end NBA talent. Or we could just keep beating our head against the "productive college player" wall that has had so much success for us. And...really, another Kentucky player? You want to know the only successful UK player we have drafted so far? WE TRADED HIM TO THE GODDAMN CLIPPERS ON DRAFT DAY LAST SEASON.

I mean that is fine, you don’t like PJ.  All those other folks had question marks as well.  The more the night went on the less I wanted Bol.  Not sure there is anyway he stays healthy.  Dude is flat out weird too.

It was a terrible draft overall...after Zion not a single player that is a lock to be an all star...and that includes the gunner Barrett

It was actually a solid draft overall, IMO. Pretty top heavy. We will see in a few years. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3-4 of these guys end up being All-Star caliber players.
