Why a trade up is needed even if it requires a future first

Look

It really looks like Kemba is staying.  He just loves it here.

We arent moving any big contracts.  No one is touching Batum, Biz, etc.    And we are going to be stuck with them this year and atleast next with Batum.  Sucks but its the truth

At 12, in this draft, we aren't going to bring anyone to truely move the needle.  Not Hachimura, not Clarke, etc.  They will be nice role players, but we need more than that.

As long as Kemba is here, this team will be stuck in purgatory.  He is good enough to single handedly have us in contention for the last seed.   We also know that MJ isnt going to tank

We NEED to get a guy with Star potential.  A guy to be a sidekick to Kemba while we are handcuffed to these contracts

Trading a future 1st for Coby White or Reddish will be well worth it.  IF the guy flops, we just gave up a pick thatll end up being a 12th-14th pick for a guy with huge upside.  If the guy comes right in like people expect.  We get over the hump into the playoffs as the last seed (hey atleast its something).  When we finally shed these contrants and open the cap, we will be a much more intriguing for FAs with Kemba and a young stud vs playing this yearly Kemba and the avg role players.

It is not worth trading up unless for the top 4-7 pick for a Garland, Culver or Hunter. And I dont see the Cavs, Suns or Bulls trading down. So that means we’ll have to trade up to 4. I dont see Pelicans wanting anything we have.

Culver- maybe, Just his shot scares me

Garland- no, he's a small PG, and wouldn't compliment Kemba

Hunter- yes and no.  Would be worth the trade up, but we need someone who can help handle the ball to

Coby White is a scorer, has that it factor, great athlete, with ability to play the SG and PG with star potential

Reddish and Sekou- same thing, all can handle it, shoot it, with star potential who could be Kemba's sidekick

This team just can’t give up future 1sts. We will be right back in the lottery next year. Can’t give up a shot at a top pick just to move up a few spots. We can’t get up to 5-7 which is where Coby will go.

Problem is

As long as this team has Kemba, that future 1st is going to be a 12-14th.

Giving that up to actually land a potential Stud/Kemba Sidekick is worth it.

When you just keep landing potential role players from where we draft, your not going ti get anywhere.  And we cant afford to sign someone to help.  So only way to to it is throw away that future shot at a roleplayer, and itll be worth it.

I agree on the being stuck to late lottery picks is a dead end. That’s why I’d rather Kemba move on. We just don’t have anywhere near the foundation of assets/talent to be good enough to make a difference with him. Sign him to a max-near max deal and we are still stuck in purgatory. If you want to be satisfied with squeezing into the 8th seed and getting swept out then yeah sign him but I don’t want that. All the small market teams either hit on a franchise player through the draft or had enough assets to make a big trade. Kemba isn’t a franchise changing player and we have zero assets. Not one guy after Zion in this draft is a sure fire can’t miss player. Everyone else is a gamble. For sure we won’t get that 2nd star in the 8-12 range. There is zero history that says Charlotte can find those hidden gems.

Disagree, resign Kemba and take the best player available tonight.  In a few years we will be in good shape.

At which point Kemba will probably be a shell of himself after having to carry this dumpster fire. I love Kemba, I wish he would go somewhere that cares about winning.

    • It's been a tradition of mine in FF I ignore the name of the RB and draft them based on the oline. For years, Dallas was the elite line. Now it's Philly. It's been plug and play behind those lines. Investing those day 2 picks on the interior line allows you to take a day 3 RB and get day 2 results.
    • So we have Tremble, JT Sanders, and the Thomas - Franks is the 4th but mainly just for Special teams.  Sanders is a TE - on paper, on the roster, physically, and on the field.  If you are trying to claim because he is a good receiver and not a great blocker he is not a TE then you have not watched very much football, like at all.  Cause that is how a ton of TE's come into the league.  Literally the #1, most common area for improvement for the TE group every single year - especially the top 5 TE's. And for the 1 millionth time, for the people in the back - drafting BPA is absolutely not a rule that anyone follows.  Not a single team.  They always factor in multiple things, BPA being one of them but not the most important almost ever.  It is an evaluation of need, personal evaluation, pick position/who drafts before your next pick, trade offers, free agents possible.  They don't follow it for good reason. Perfect example - Bo Nix.  He was not rated anywhere near #12 by just about anyone - including the broncos.  But they drafted him because they NEEDED a QB, liked him, and had no 2nd RD pick.  They outright said that.  Do you think they regret the pick?  They drafted 100% for need and pick position. Example #2 - Bijan.  Atlanta drafted BPA.  He is amazing, had a great 2 years so far.  They were 7-10 for 2 straight years prior.  And the 2 years after they have been 7-10 & 8-9.  Do you think they made the right decision?  By the way they also spent the #4 overall pick on Pitts, a Generational TE, and he/they suck.  I'd imagine Falcon fans would not agree with your BPA theory since they missed out on Chase, Waddle, Parsons, Horn, PSII, DeVonta Smith - all positions of need in 2021. BPA is A criteria, but not THE criteria.
