Give me a reason to buy Madden 20?

I played Madden a few years ago, but I think they really killed the fun of it by introducing 'cards' that you can purchase.  It's really a pay to win game now if you play multiplayer, which is really unfortunate.   If you like single player mode, I guess it's alright.

This. I wish we could get the gameplay of a decade or so ago with the graphics of today. I think they're focusing too much on perfecting animations and graphics and forgetting that the primary point of a video GAME is the GAME play.

19 was pathetic. Everyone feels the same and incredible slow and blah. Cuts and jukes are like unicorns. It’s just not good detailed simulation . The video I’ve seen on 20 LOOKS a LITTLE better but it’s all in all still pretty chunky looking. Funny this thread came up, because I just bought madden 05 and 06. Gonna relive that glory.

In 05, Singleback set with Smith in the slot running a corner route is in my opinion the most overpowered play in the history of Madden. Either Smith catches it for a 25+ yard gain or a TD. The only time I've seen it stopped is when my opponent took control of the corner or safety.

Trade for Edgerrin James and it is unstoppable.

The beauty of Madden comes 6 months into your playing experience, when you finally get the sliders just right.
Madden's settings are so convoluted, nobody really has any idea what changes effect what during the start of the game premier. They always get the ball rolling pretty well, like I said, a few months in.

This year, they have a more NBA Live feel to the front office stuff. More of a "career" mode, per say. They dropped that long shot poo for this. Also, you can play as a college athlete in the college playoffs, for the draft.

... Last season (i'm still playing 18) was the first of their new engine. This should be a much more polished game.

If you're going to buy a year and skip out a few of the following, this should be the version to pickup.

thats only for a certain game mode. and yes its stupid. you can grind for the same stuff but it takes forever

you can still hop in an online head to head and play people on a fair playing field

Good lord the hate for Madden is extreme.

If you want a real answer, Madden Ultimate Team is what brings a lot of people in these days.  That is the mode that I got my friends interested in.  It sounds complicated until you are in there, but they have integrated the trading card aspect to Madden.  Build up your team throughout the year.

I always look forward to getting a new team of scrubs to mold into a legit contender.  To know how to specifically sell this to you though, I need to know what actually interests you.  They have added a draft challenge type mode where you get to go through 15 rounds and then battle folks online or your friends.  They have squads which is centered around you and two friends.  There is a lot to do in Madden now, and I haven't even looked into the new one yet.

Don't let the blind hate influence you.  Give it a try.  Not much to lose.

MUT is Madden's version of a microtransactional play to win game mode. I personally hate it. I don't play madden to play an RPG where I level up my squad, I play madden to play a franchise and play as the panthers.

Unfortunately, MUT is where EA makes their money so they are constantly throwing their resources into that game mode year in and year out. I have no desire to play it. I just wish they would make franchise mode that much better.

It may seem that way from the outside looking in.  It is an easy excuse people throw around.  Can you get an advantage by dumping cash into it?  Sure.  You can absolutely be competitive with a no money spent squad.

I mostly just hop on to do some solos.  I don't take the game too seriously.  I have started to enjoy franchise mode the last couple of years as well.  I didn't know that the fantasy draft franchise was a thing, and that has been pretty interesting.

There is a lot to Madden today.  We need to know what kind of player OP is to really help.

This was way better.

This was the last great football game.    Also it was only $20.     EA got scared then bought exclusive rights.

There's a reason TO THIS DAY people are updating rosters on 2k5 each year and playing that.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
