I think the reference was to a "gift" button and was meant as a joke. A gif is a file extension (graphic interchange format). The three preceding posts included gifs. You can use  the insert other media dropdown menu in the lower right hand corner of a reply to include a gif or click to choose files to upload gifs saved on you device.
