Saints tap into their bottomless cap and extend Cam Jordan

They can sign Thomas now too. If you do,  you have to guarantee a lot otherwise Thomas will bet on himself and have another great year and get paid next off-season. Given the Saints don't have 53 signed for 2020 they have cap to work with and can sign anyone now better than later.  Plus usually multi-year contracts are very cap friendly in year 1. So the cost won't really even hit until 2021. If there is anything that Loomis is good at, it is kicking costs down the road. Everyone says it will crash down but it doesn't. Should be something to see when Brees retires and Payton bolts to Dallas.

Ive been hearing of the Saints inevitable cap woes for about 10 years now.  Seriously 10 years we've been asking "hOw AeR dEy gUNa SigN hiMs?" 10 years they been doin it and then some.

Why? Drew Brees.

When he hangs it up, the cards fall.  Until then they will keep pulling money out of their ass to stay competitive as long as Drew can peek over the line to toss a bomb.

edit: I realized I left on a seemingly positive note about the Saints and would like to address that.

Fug Drew Brees in his moley face.  Fug him in his wispy thin four score and seven hairs.

Fug the Saints

that is all.

That guy is a true BEAST, not long ago it was a one-man show and he still had an effect on the game. He's in the discussion after Arron Donald in whos the next best DL player.

Khalil Mack would like a word

Not going to call it yet, but I saw some pretty big signs that the end is nearer for Brees than we thought.  Check out his last 4 games last season.  3 TD's - 3 INT's.

Y/A way off his normal.  Either he or someone was dealing with some injuries, or you could see it as Father Time catching up?

Sign and trades sound nice, but you end up carrying a lot of dead cap space. The Giants carried almost $37M in dead cap space last year because of the OBJ and Vernon trades. They had nearly $60M in cap space tied up in two guys who were no longer on the roster and Eli Manning. It's not a coincidence they were terrible. It was virtually guaranteed that they were going to be terrible.

That wasn't dead cap space if they were on the team? The Giants weren't going anywhere last season and Gettlemen wanted to invest on the lines. With Evan Ingram and the current receiver corp with the Giants looking adequate, he redirected resources to the Front Lines, where games are won and lost.

OBJ will wear out his welcome in Cleveland at some point.
