Cam has been changing his mechanics.

Recommended Posts

Hopefully the offensive line will give him enough time for his new throwing motion to stick.

It's all well and good to talk about good mechanics, but it's another thing when large, powerful, and quick men are chasing you with the intention of driving you into the ground.

Most QBs mechanics suffer when under pressure, both physically by not being able to set themselves bc the pocket is collapsing or they are on the run and have to make a throw however they can and also mentally by not being confident in their protection

Cam has been able to get by a lot just on his arm talent, but hes certainly not the only QB to not have great mechanics.

Mahomes doesn't have great mechanics either but when you got a rocket arm and make all the throws, most of that gets glossed over.

It's not like 2015 MVP Cam had any real different mechanics. What he did have was the best (and really only adequate for most QBs) protection.

Still, Cam is at the point where he needs to probably have better mechanics to still be able to generate the velocity we are used to seeing from him.

I am excited to see. A healthy Cam makes this team a contender

I'm always a little leery of supposed throwing mechanics tweaks/overhauls. Generally speaking, when the bullets are flying in live action, guys revert back to the way they've been doing it their entire lives.

But, if you're going to focus on fundamental mechanics, probably no better time than after a long layoff due to injury.

That's normally true unless you are taking about the Turners. They have faults but QB coaching isn't one of them. Cam should be better than before.

I remember when Jake Delhomme changed his mechanics...that was the final year of his career in a Panthers uniform.

that being said...Cam has to change his throwing motion if his shoulder is going to hold up.  His wind up is incredibly long, and are seems to turn his shoulder incredibly hard with every throw.  Sticking with a shorter motion might prolong his career.

Jake was 36 coming off Tommy John (Jone).

Cam just turned 30.

He only had one game with a completion pct lower than his career average and that was his last. Even when his limited he was completing above his historic trend

I think that had more to do with the offensive scheme change than Cam himself. I think he was always capable of having a completion percentage that high. Cam had big slow receivers that couldn't get open and he was forced to throw into tight windows on long developing pass plays. It was a recipe for bad stats. Turner focused Cam more into high percentage throws and it worked, until teams knew he couldn't throw deep and kept everything in front of them.
