I think we honestly are going to see a lot more digital innovation of this nature from teams in the future - perhaps even as revenue-builders - and it seems certain the Panthers, under new ownership, will want to be on the forefront of that.

Really surprised they're going to show this. What's to gain?

If he's not throwing lasers, all the negative Nancies will be hooting and hollering.

Spoiler alert: He won't be throwing lasers. I'll be shocked if he's throwing anything but check downs and short routes at low velocity.

Not to be a negative nelly but why are we showcasing anything? Cam doesn’t owe it to anyone to show his throwing. As long as it’s not distracting him, the trainer and the coaches, no problem. I just can’t imagine it not being a showcase instead of a good workout.

Apparently the team is pretty excited about the new and improved cam. Rapapport tweeted about how the team was excited about the throwing mechanics overhaul (surprised no one created a thread about it) and he has been blowing people away who have watched him throw.

So good to have Cam back.  Saw this on SI:

It’s easy to forget now, but there was a point last year where Turner had Newton rolling in a revamped offense. At midseason, the Panthers were 6–2, and the QB’s passer rating was 100.8, buoyed by a 15-4 TD-INT ratio. Even as the team slipped from there, Newton’s rating rose to 103.7 (22-7 TD-INT) at the end of November. The wheels came off thereafter, as the team had to manage Newton, first giving him Wednesdays, then Wednesday and Thursdays off.

“The hardest part for all of us was that middle stretch where we were still playing really good offense, and he was limited on Wednesdays and Thursday,” Turner said. “It’s really hard to play at a high level if you’re not practicing those days, he’d only get Friday. But Week 11, we play Seattle, and he’s still 14-of-14 at the half, and finishes 25-of-35, taking us up and down the field, and playing at a high level. But it catches up to you when you can’t practice. Hopefully that’s behind us.”

...As Turner said, the plan is to have Newton throwing without limitation when the team reports to Spartanburg, S.C. for training camp in six weeks. Hopefully, the offense will pick where it left off before Newton got hurt as one of the more innovative and diverse attacks in football.

“His second year in a system, there was change for Cam last year, change for me,” Turner said. “With the young players, their second year, we should see some real growth—D.J. [Moore], and Curtis Samuel, and even Christian [McCaffrey]. I think that we can be a really, really explosive offense, and his ability to do so many things makes it really hard for defenses, and we’ll still mix some things in where he’s the featured ballcarrier. We know it starts with him.”

I definitely get it but why showcase it? Would Bill Belichick do it if Tom Brady all of a sudden had a new delivery that could be better than before? fug no. If Cam is good us fans will feel great when we win. I don’t care about a preseason dog and pony show. It won’t give us an extra point week 1.

It won't take away an extra point week 1 either.  But it will be a catalyst to drive interest and get fans excited and talking about the coming season...especially the casual fans that don't look for every tidbit of information they can find like die hard fans.

While in the grand scheme of things, it won't make much of a difference, but it won't hurt anything either.  So why not provide something for fans to get excited about before going into the lull of the offseason?

I posted it in the other thread about Cam throwing. Not much reaction.

The front office heard all that "Cams shoulder is done, its Will Grier time" talk and told everyone to shut the fug up.

It’s the front office that took Grier in the third round. People have been realistically skeptical about Cam coming back to form but I have not heard anyone say this.

Front office must be hearing voices.
