Good write up. I'm looking forward to and hoping that he can and will step up. The coaches obviously have faith in him and going into this season I have faith in them. This season brings a different mindset...so anxious

Good breakdown. Sort of alludes to the obvious weaknesses but does highlight his potential and some of the skills that he did show last year. 

I am definitely skeptical of Gaulden being the guy and just having a project player starting as a whole. But, it is what it is right now. He's going to be the guy for us next season, so hopefully he can make a lot of progress this offseason.

If he can wrap his head around the position, I think there could be good potential. I would love for him to take those steps, because can you imagine the hammers that would be dropped between Reid and him?

I'm not sure our failure to address the safety position points to the coaching staff having confidence in Gaulden. It's the norm for us not to address the position and try to make do with scraps.

I just hope the light comes on sooner rather than later.

The biggest difference is the move from proven vets who know exactly what we want to a young project player. It will be interesting to see what happens.

It seems Gaulden has a LB or SS mentality, as long as things are in front of him and he's able to play downhill, he's fine.  However when he's has to drop in coverage, he seems timid.  That's one thing you can't have is a FS that is unsure of his coverage skills.

We'll see. I'm not at all convinced that our starting FS won't eventually end up being some vet on his last legs that doesn't make the final roster elsewhere.

I really like the stuff this kid puts out.  Not just someone sitting behind the desk talking. He does great film breakdowns.   And seems to know what he is talking about.  

I have listened to their podcast a couple times.  It’s OK. But the film stuff this kid does is top notch.

I think that has more to do with his lack of experience than actual timidness.  He's still figuring things out and learning the new position.  He's still thinking rather than just reading and reacting to what he sees.  That was always my issue with the naysayers in regards to Gaulden.  Anyone that was paying attention knew that there would be a learning curve, and that year one was going to basically be a redshirt, adjustment year. 

Unfortunately, many didn't/don't have the patience to let a player develop.  They expect them to be ready to play right out of the box, but that's not how it works for the majority of players.  I think people also tend to see one mistake and generalize that to exemplify their overall talent and skillset...especially when it's a player that hasn't seen much field time).

  I don't know if he's going to be the answer or not (we haven't seen enough to get a realistic idea), but I do think he has the potential to be a solid safety once he gets comfortable.

Unless he is just a disaster at camp, then I wouldn't expect to see that move until early to mid-season. That would be pretty typical of us too.
