With the .... Pick In the 2010 NFL Draft, The Carolina Panthers select....

With the #4 Overall Pick In the 2010 NFL DRAFT (Acquired from the Chiefs in a 3-way trade involving franchise tagged Julius Peppers), The Carolina Panthers select....

Eric Berry out of The University of Tennessee.

With this selection the Panthers admit that Charles Godfrey is a bust... at least as a starter right now. Berry will start immediately at Free Safety and shore up a porous pass defense.

We all saw Sunday what drafting a stud DB can do via Jairus Byrd. Think about how much more comfortable Gamble and Marshall wouuld be defending elite recievers knowing that Chris Harris and Eric Berry have their backs.

Sure we will have passed on some solid 1st rd. QBs, DEs, and WRs (which are all desperate needs), but with Carolina's record of drafting and grooming, or lack there of, I think we need to look to free agency to fill that void. The next most pressing need is DE, then WR, and OL

Captain will have taken one of those spots at CB by this time next year. I don't want to even like Captain...as my blood is orange.....but I would rather him play and make mistakes than watch Marshall and Gamble play corner. Marshall has looked bad all year and Gamble has never earned the rep he recently recieved.....AZ will once again show how avg those two guys are.

That would be the dumbest pick on the planet considering we have a QB that turns it over 3 times a game.

We don't need a top 10 pick to get a good QB. We just need a coach who knows what the hell he is doing to make the picks. We could get a quality QB at the end of the first if we could somehow trade into that spot.

I think I may have mislead some of you here.

What I meant is that with our lack of solid drafting and grooming of QBs, we should get one via F.A. That leaves DE, WR, and OL as our major needs left... which we can supplement via later picks.

My major question is where is Charles Godfrey? We need someone who can make plays back there and as I said: Godfrey and Martin SHOULD be backups, Salley and Teal SHOULD be on the practice squad.

Give our team 2 more years and you'll be wishing we took E. Berry

You mean in two years we're going to look back and see this thread and wish we had not only been able to pull off the ridiculous trade scenario you just pulled our of your @$$, but used the pick on the guy you're vouching for?

That's pretty specific, even for hindsight.

    • This is true. I think guys like TD, Luke, Jake, Gross, Trey Boston all have been positive and hopeful about Panther moves since they retired or left the team. They'll give their opinion about things but arent overly critical. Steve Smith has been critical but since becoming a media guy he's become more neutral, and since being part of the panthers media team (I think?) he's been more Pro-Panthers. Cam has been honest with his takes which I appreciate, and I think being PC in the media is something that won't suit him. Therefore, it makes sense why they'd prefer to not have him around media wise.
    • I think a healthy Derrick Brown solves alot of problems with this current lineup. Losing him was huge. Remember, he usually plays every defensive snap. BTW, I think they should pull back from that. A guy that big should really be at around 70-75% snaps at most.  If they can draft a contributing rookie pass rusher or defensive tackle, and then bring in an above average pass rushing vet, I think this defense takes off - with a healthy D. Brown. Oh and lock up Horn asap. The longer they wait, the more it'll cost. Secondary is good enough - starters and depth. Inside LBs need an upgrade and/or depth injection. They aren't that far off. Injuries have hurt them a ton.
    • Who mentioned Sanders or Ward?   You seem off your rocker about not drafting either QB.   I'm just telling you this franchise isn't going to win games until we find a franchise QB. Its really just a fact.
