So to answer why we don’t have a true FS

Recommended Posts

There is definitely a pattern to not investing in the FS...meanwhile we are the most invested team on the DL.  Is Ron/Hurn baiting the long ball?  Hoping  they throw deeper to target the FS, giving the DL time to get to em?

I think "interchangeable" actually means "can't cover poo".

Well what’s funny about that is it’s really hasn’t been true. The bears with the young goat Eddie Jackson and Adrian Amos are an example of interchangeable Ss. Either one could play FS or SS and in EJ’s case, play it extremely well. When we say “interchangeable” it usually just means through 2 SSs out there. And the alternative is having a liability like Colin jones whose an actual FS. There was actually a great tweener S in this years draft I would’ve loved for use to have- Juan thorn hill. We ended up going with Greg little, which is cool with me. LT has also been a problem for years. But yeah, we’ve had the opportunity to fix the FS position or just grab a potentially good tweener and haven’t.

I don't care about the Bears and/or their safeties. I was only talking I regards to the Panthers. We've never shown much of any value in the positions yet we ask for a ton of versatility out of them. It's no surprise the results have been overall poor.

How many games have we lost because our interchangeable "free safety" has been beat?  Seriously I can think of maybe  10 in the last 4 years.  How many times last year did we hold a team to zero or negative yards only to give up 3rd and longs?  We couldnt beat atl or the saints, or the God damn browns last year because we get beat over the top every fuging time.  It's been the case since Rivera has been here because we haven't had a safety that can cover anyone but a running back.  Ohh poo I forgot, Odell threw a bomb to a ruining back on us too.

interchangeable safeties are great and all but when you have QBs in this league that line up in shotgun most of the time and release the ball within 2.7 seconds of the snap, and at least one of those guys literally plays in our division, it pays to have guys in the secondary that are true talents at their positions and know how to take good angles in zone or smother their assignment instead of just investing in your pass rush to make the defense work.

i guess “we have a blueprint for strengthening the secondary” be the 2020 offseason’s mantra when our defense can’t get off the field in 2019.
