Could Kawann Short and Gerald McCoy be considered the best DT duo...ever?

Don't argue semantics, you know that I meant top 10. It is literally in that post. Irvin is pushing towards the typical age when you would expect to see a decline in production. That is something that could happen this year or in 3-4 years. It just depends on the individual players.

I understand the "on paper" argument but that 2003 squad was mentioned among the best of all time for their achievements on the field as a unit, not on paper. That's why I disagree about that assertion, it's a projection that isn't based on any actual play.

I agree that potential absolutely exists. The talent level is absolutely there. But it remains to be seen if that becomes a cohesive unit or if everyone plays up to their talent level.

Then we are arguing over absolutely nothing.  If you go back to my original post I said production was the key to backing up the statement.  I'm confused as to why you even began the debate if you seemingly agree with that statement when you say "the talent level is absolutely there"...

Anyhow, back to the title. I was scrolling through twitter, and noticed a particular falcons film guy make this comment. As he's from a division rival saying this, I found it as an interesting thought:

I mean, sure. People said the same thing about Aaron Donald and N. Suh last year. But, for context, there's a stat out there that stated Suh was the 5th best out of 7 Rams defensive linemen at getting pressure. For playing next to Aaron Donald, you'd think he'd have been more productive. Heck, his sack rate was also disappointing.

So, lowkey it could be possible the Panthers may have one of the best DT duos ever in place of that. Now, realistically they probably wouldn't be the best ever. That definitely is a stretch. But I don't think it's as far fetched to say they could be the best duo this year.

And if Dontari Poe returns to his normal form, they could be the best front three in the league.

Just me...,I would have started off with this and put "scariest DT duo ever" in quotes I n the title to avoid people thinking this was my thinking...if it wasnt my thinking as well.

I agree, though. Has the potential to be the best group of Drs in the league currently. We could have the best pass rush in the league. Looking at KK, Mccoy, and Poe could be a nightmare for OLs and OCs and QBs, but best or "scariest"ever? Lol we'll see.

It doesn’t even approach Donald/Suh of just last year, let alone all time lol.

Suh who? Dude has been a shell of himself. He may be getting big one year contracts but he hasn't been the same guy since he left Detroit. He's been in a position to play 0, 3, and 5 tech without much success.

Add Poe back to his natural NFL position of 0 and 1 tech and you get a big 3 on the defensive line; much better than anything currently in the NFCS. The Panthers were able to hold Breesus Christ to 12 points with a bum offense riding on Cam's bum shoulder and a defense tinkering with play calling. If the last few weeks with Rivera calling the shots are any indication of this season, the Panthers may be in a position to sit Cam, if need be, and still win 10 games.

You didn't read the part where I said this question came from another person, did you, nor the part where I said it's probably more realistic to assume that not to happen.

FWIW, it's one of you Falcon people who brought it up, not me.

The irony is that you starting a thread based off of the post of a random twitter user even more epitomizes “Saca gonna Saca” lol. But I have learned to appreciate you much more since the doom-and-gloom era has overtaken the Huddle. You are the shining light the Huddle needs right now...I hope you’re back for good to fluff this joint up.

Buckner and Jenkins?  Debatable.

More than debatable, it would be an inaccurate statement. Buckner made 0 probowls and Jenkins made 4. On the other hand, Short has made 2 and Mccoy has made 6 and they both have more years to go. On paper Short and Mccoy are better (assuming all players in their prime).

Well, from all accounts, Suh underwhelmed despite being beside Aaron Donald. Check his stats, and you'd be surprised.

Aaron Donald is a one man wrecking crew in general. But still something to think on.

I can’t say I watched a lot of Suh film during the year, but he was every bit his dominating self during the playoffs. He singlehandly shut down our run game. And I don’t think Donald’s sudden massive increase in sacks was by coincidence. Not saying Donald hasn’t dominated without him, just that his sack numbers went way up.

A lot of this "shell of himself" nonsense is just that, nonsense. He was a very effective player against the run and racked up more QB pressures than Donald in the playoffs. Everyone likes to put their blinders on and look at sack totals which is far from the whole story for an interior defender.
