Make the depth chart for the back 5

With everyone excited about the McCoy signing I thought it might be interesting to look at the secondary.

Predict the depth chart, for the back 5 (I'm including the slot corner).  I find it difficult to even fill out.

CB:  Bradberry, Cockrell

CB:  Jackson, ?

Slot: ?

FS: Gaulden, ?

SS:  Reid - ?

Bradberry, Jackson and Reid are locks. Hopefully Cockrell is healthy and can contribute this year. If Gaulden can't step up or really just one injury to the other starters then we will have this guy playing back there

I still think we kick the tires on Glover Quin, Darian Stewart or a preseason cut. We are THIN at safety.

Agreed. I guess there's no harm in waiting until later to address??

Anyway, it's obvious Rivera wants to see what the guys currently on the roster can do and wants them to win roster spots.

The safety options out there are known at this point, and given the late-preseason and into-the-season additions we've made under Rivera, I don't think there will be any rush to sign anyone.

I want to see Gaulden lock down the free safety spot as much as anyone and would be thrilled if Corn Elder could somehow morph into something other than the abomination that he was during the Seahawks game, and I don't want to minimize how great the staff has been in addressing the biggest issues of the team (both lines and backup QB), but it is hard to see the potential of this defense and then see us rolling with the question marks at safety and nickel with their being viable options out there.

This is why I think the Javien Elliott signing is underrated.  Gives up hopefully another legitimate option at nickel.

I think Bradberry/Cockrell/Jackson are all fairly interchangeable on the outside, and I think Seymour if healthy provides decent depth.

As far as slot CB, Cockrell & Jackson can play it and I think Elliott is a decent backup option.

As of now I think the 5 CB's we keep barring injury are: Bradberry, Jackson, Cockrell, Seymour, and Elliott.  I also think Lorenzo Doss has a chance to make the group.

Unless something drastic has changed, I don't want to ever see Corn Elder again.

As far as safety, I think 3 of the 4 spots are set with Reid, Gaulden, and Jones.  The team wants and is going to give Gaulden every chance to win the job.  I don't know who the final safety will be, but I do hope we add someone
