Obada has packed on 15 pounds, which means he's 280+ now and has the frame to pack on some more.  Heck 10 more pounds and he's at the low end of DT weight and as long as the weight doesn't affect his speed or mobility, he has the better chance of making the transition to a 3-4 end than Cox, IMO. Honestly, it's a moot point in semantics because neither Cox nor Obada will be here in 2020 even if they do manage to hang on this season.

Cox isn't a 3-4 DE either. I just don't think they'd carry Addison, Cox and Obada, who have all shown success strictly in the 4-3, as question marks in the 3-4. I think they would carry 2 of the them at this point. In this hybrid, you still need your good 4-3 ends, but need to cut down on the question marks going into the 3-4 and we have plenty of bodies at 3-4 OLB. Plus Miller or Irvin could fill in at 4-3 DE if needed. I think our depth at 4-3 DE is plentiful even without Obada. He would have to ball out in preseason in order for us to decide we only need 2 backup 3-4 ILBs.

People are discrediting Burns, he can absolutely play end in a 4-3.

CAN play yes, but in a base 4-3, that's not going to be his strong suit.  In a 3rd and long situations where he's got the OT in pass-pro, sure he can play end, however he's not stout enough to be effective on running downs.  You will not see Burns playing end on 1st downs in a base 4-3 look.

3-4 is thin at LB and that 4-3 is thin on DL. I don't trust Poe in the middle on 3-4, would rather plug in Love or KK. Also, how does McCoy even fit a 3-4 scheme? He's best suited for 4-3. If we dig a hole, fug it, burn it to the ground. This is either the year or turrible.

The panthers will probably be in some form of Nickel Defense most of the time.  Im thinking the Nickel will be there 4 man front with 2 LBs

Yeah, 3-4 nickel and 4-3 are basically the exact same thing. With the amount of time NFL defenses spend in nickel these days, I really don't think the defense is going to really look much different at all. In a 3-4 nickel, you sub out the NT or a DE to bring in the extra DB so the two remaining DL effectively become the DTs and the OLBs effectively become 4-3 DEs. The ILBs in a 3-4 function pretty much identically to how the MLB and WLB function in a 3-4. So the 3-4 essentially becomes a 4-2-5 in nickel which is exactly how a 4-3 nickel defense looks.

The minor differences in the defense will obviously be in the base formation but even then it really isn't that much different. Usually one of the OLBs will drop into coverage or when both rush the passer then one of the DL drops into coverage. There is more flexibility to a degree in a 3-4 as to who is rushing the passer but it is still essentially rushing 4 and dropping 7 with blitzes mixed in.
