Eric Berry still a FA.

If McCoy doesn't choose us, any chance we take a gamble on Eric Berry. We can afford him easily now. Obviously he has major health concerns. But we have ignored FS for a long time. Why not offer him a 1 year deal for say 5mil?

Crazy how we now can afford to go after a big name via FA or trade now that we have cap space.

With all the high grade safeties that were drafted this year their are going to be vet safeties cut between now and the regular season, maybe cole Luke and gaulden will show one of them is the guy but I’d love some vet insurance at the very least

Because Berry has played 3 games in 2 years.

Exact reason why he’s still available.

Yea we stand a much better chance waiting on cuts and looking for a reasonable but beneficial trade before cuts come in. We’ll should be able to snag a very reasonable safety and if our pass rush is up to par he’ll end up looking like mike Adams before Pittsburgh or Coleman his first year tied for league high picks.

We will give Gaulden a chance and if it is not working out or probably even if it is working out we will bring in a guy for a reasonable paycheck.

Relax it’s barely June

I get that safety isnt a priority for Ron’s system but it just annoys the hell out of me that no one in their right minds actually thinks you can put someone like Gaulden, Jones, Parms, Luke etc without getting absolutely exposed every game and especially by our division opponents with the QBs and receivers they have yet they wanna hype up these bums and actually pretend its acceptable to put them on the field. Im not asking us to sign Eric Berry or splurge on a FA, i just want them to actually look at the players they have right now and truly ask themselves if they are truly putting together the best secondary/defense/roster they can with the resources they have available to them.

this happens every year with an area of weakness where this whole board can point it out months before the season start yet the FO does nothing about it and we watch that area of weakness bite us during the season.

Eric Berry is a great story, and he was a great player, but the fact that there has been zero interest whatsoever in his services by any team tells the story.

I still think if he wants to play and can pass a physical, some team might sign him for close to veteran minimum and put some incentives in his contract for if he can stay healthy and contribute, but I don't even know if that is a given at this point.

What's the asking price? The deeper it gets into training camp without a contract, the higher the chances of him being open to a 1 year contract near vet minimum to prove he's healthy again (somewhat akin to Reid last year although for very different reasons obviously). Not many teams left who have a serious need at safety.

I like it for a couple reasons. It's minimal risk and covers the only major hole left on our roster. It still gives us a chance to build up Gaulden and our other young guys since Berry will need to be worked in slowly and spelled for several plays as he builds his stamina (not to mention his injury potential). Again this is all at the right price. And I see Berry more likely to take a favorable contract than Boston since he has more to prove and has made plenty of money already.
