This is why matt moore should be the starter

It would be cool if you would look at what Matt Moore is objectively. And that is, an awful QB who has sucked something awful the previous 2 preseasons. A guy who was awful against Dallas 2 years ago. A guy who was awful in all those games where he came in to replace somebody(22 QB rating in those games). A guy who was average at best with a pop warner playbook against 2 teams resting their starters. A guy that was so bad at Oregon State he nearly cost his coach his job. Etc.

Wow, spoken like a legitimate sports writer that knows his stats and game. Is that technical jargon to the sports journalism industry?

Wait,....

Is that you Jake? or is it Set Hut?

100% Agree!!

Matt Moore

10 Games played / 3 TD's / 6 INT's / passer rating 64.0

2007 was his best year with 9 games played and only 3 TD's / 5 INT's. http://www.nfl.com/players/mattmoore/careerstats?id=MOO551757

A.J. Feeley

23 Games played / 27 TD's / 29 INT's / passer rating 69.6

2006 was his best year with only 2 games played. http://www.nfl.com/players/a.j.feeley/careerstats?id=FEE447935

Jake Delhomme

92 Games played / 119 TD's / 89 INT's / passer rating 83.2

Just look at this http://www.nfl.com/players/jakedelhomme/careerstats?id=DEL367367 If you notice Jake has been use to throwing INT's for a long time.

NO Good choice!!

So a 53.6% completion rate, 1:1 TD to INT ratio, 182 passing yards (6.5 per pass play) whilst being sacked 5 times is awful?

I wouldn't say it's awful when our rushing attack produced just 69 yards, 39 of which were by one run from DeAngelo. That's around 2.3 per carry in case you were wondering, without the long run.

Well the Panthers are playing someone who was awful against the Cards one year ago, a guy who has been awful in 3 of 6 games this season. A guy who has had the playbook stripped down to rookie levels despite being in his 11th year. A guy who is performing so badly that his HC will surely lose his job because of him.

I like Jake. Always have. Let's look at HIM objectively though. He has commited a league high 13 interceptions and 15 total turnovers. That is worse than the vast majorty of teams total turnovers and the major reason we have league low -14 in total turnovers. He is playing his worst football of his career, yet was never THAT much better than average at his best of times. In the past he won games, but did not put up flashy numbers, yet now he is not winning. Now he is genuinely losing games. He is not even facing that much pressure now as the amount of sacks is starting to slow and we are about average with the league.

Let's face it, simply doing something, anything to try and spark this team might save Fox's job. Standing pat will just ensure we see similar results and thus a ticket out of a head coaching job. More importantly his indecision and lack of guts to change things may even have a say in if other teams pursue him if he is let go.

Is Moore experienced? Nope, not a bit. Is he going to be the saviour? No, there is more wrong with this team than just a QB. Will it give the fans a reason to keep watching? Yes. Will it make important people think he has what it takes to make a gutsy decision? Quite possibly.

Being realistic here, sitting Jake is the only sensible option. The facts and figures show Delhomme is not deserving of a starting spot, but it also gives him a chance to sit and catch his breath. Then if Moore does not pan out, he has a chance to rescue the season. Sometimes giving a QB a breather on the sidelines helps him recover. Soemtimes it allows him to come back in 2-3 weeks and forget everything that had gone on. Clasic example of this was McNabb.

I applaud you for looking at Moore objectively, but you need to look at the situation objectively. Put yourself in Fox's shoes. What do you do?

Then you dont want to waste your time with Matt Moore.

That's all you have to say? After being so resolute before? Could it be that people made points that made sense?

Have you realised that people know Moore is not the second coming and that all we are looking for is an improvement over Delhommes performances? No one is performing worse than him, including Anderson, Russell is on par.

We know Moore is not Brady in disguise, the team needs a kick, a spark, anything to show that they are willing to try anything to win. If he comes out and actually DOES perform worse then Delhomme can be the hero. Win, win.

Whether or not Matt is the future of this franchise remains to be seen. One thing I like about the kid though, and one thing that he is far better at than Jake, is looking off of a receiver to freeze the defense. He also progresses in his reads, rather than forcing the ball. Case in point...the Eagles game this year. Jake locked on to Smith all day long, hence the turnovers. When Moore eventually came in, he found Moose on a few consecutive plays, one of which was a beautiful deep cross. The play was called back due to a hold, but regardless it showed that Matt sees the whole field and every receiver out there. Sure he threw a pick, but you know what, every QB does. We need to see what he has, and we need to do it now before this season ends and its too late.
