Short was big in '18 when game was on the line

Sure, Short came up short by many accounts based upon his play vs. his pay in 2018. There have even been suggestions that he be dumped. Notwithstanding that he is still a top DT in the league, according to PFF (via Panthers Wire of USA Today) he is still a stud in clutch time.

"Short also seems to bring his game up to another level when it’s crunch time. According to Pro Football Focus, he graded out as one of the best players in the league in the fourth quarter of one-score games.

"Short was one of two interior defensive linemen who made their all 2018 Clutch Team along with Aaron Donald of the Rams."

“. . . Short was second-best with a rate of 20.8%, which is impressive in its own right, and he was a stopper in the run game, as well: his run-defense grade of 90.4 ranked second behind only Jurrell Casey.”

That's what a top five player at his position should do.

Just imagine if McCoy actually does line up next to Short. We will really be rich at the position. K.K. actually did make his pitch.  The guys at USA Today suggested that we'd be so rich at DE that we may have to cut one of two veterans. I hope not, but getting adding McCoy to Short at that cost would be totally worth it in my estimation.

Short/McCoy could be comparable to Suh/Donald last year.  Think of how clean Kuechly will be roaming in the middle to make tackles with those two not letting blockers get to the 2nd level

Let Poe eat up a couple of blockers and let those boys get to QB.  The way to slow Brees down especially is pressure up the gut.

Collapsing the pocket will also obviously allow our speed guys to get home b/c QB's can't step up

‘when the game was on the line’ lol

maybe it’d be less ‘on the line’ if his play was like that regardless

hope he bounces back that’s one hell of an expensive situational player

Or, you know, maybe his play (and literally everyone on our defense) wouldn’t have been poo had Rivera not promoted his under qualified buddy to call the defense last year.

people need to realize that the whole defense was in a funk last season, kuechly included.

pass rush, the cornerstone of the defense, wasn't there, and we had a bimbo calling plays

my money is on Short coming back strong

100% Agree

Yeah... there's that too... I know the players and coaches all liked Washington, but it was obvious he was in over his head... I'm a Rivera homer but even I don't think Tepper is going to allow blind loyalty to wreck another season without consequences

One thing we can all agree on is that Eric Washington was straight trash at DC. My concern is that he still has that DC title. We all know about Ron and his loyalty. My concern is that if the D gets off to a good start he'll start handing the reins back over to Washington.

Not going to argue with that...I agree. But the article suggest he all of a sudden forgot about his bad coaching when the game was on the line.

But again, I do agree with poo coaching.

And what worries me is that Star gave KK much more ability than people think and that’s a reason as well as this article suggests (created before the 2018 season):

But maybe he’ll adjust and bounce back, sure hope so.

im hoping Tepper scared him enough to not let that happen

Tepper comes of as friendly, but low key could torture someone in a basement.

I don’t think he will go back to letting Washington call anything. But I also couldn’t imagine a NFL HC letting last years debacle go as long as he did. And it started before the Steeler game.

It started when we were up 35-7 on Tampa and they had 3 straight 65 yard TD drives and looked like we couldn’t stop a fly.

So many coverages in the NYG game, and whatever we were in at Philly when Alshon gets deep on the first play after we take the lead. I have no idea what the thought process was on that play. How do you not have either safety deep in that situation, especially when your CBs are 8-10 yds off and have outside leverage. With no help. And we saw the result. That’s pure incompetence,

He'll do that if he wants to ride his buddies in the HOV lane to Firedville.

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
