Q: I was watching the Florio PFT segment on the Panthers 2019 prognosis and there was a subtle comment made about Daryl Williams moving to G.  I have been very busy and out of the loop---did I miss something?  Has that been determined?  He is listed as a T on the roster, but the comment was made by Florio's co-host with confidence.

Not sure this is  thread worthy,  but  it is slow and I thought some comments or observations about Paradis, Little, or Daley would be nice,  even though OL do not do much during OTAs.

Well that would be the smartest move and i think one most people are anticipating. Put your 5 best guys out there in Little, Williams, Paradis, Turner, and Moton. This of course is assuming Little wins the LT job and Moton the RT.

Makes sense to me. Little-Williams-Paradis-Turner-Moton is what I've been expecting since we drafted little. 

*Day after edit: I wasn't sure about my reasoning for this and went back to double check and I actually didn't think this was the best formation. I believed then and still do believe (after pondering more) that the best lineup would have Moton as LG and Williams as RT. Mainly because Moton would be a stronger and more experienced LG next to a rookie LT. 

I would be ok either way and think that Moton is the future at RT, but I think that for this year and with this group Moton at LG would be better than Williams.

There is likely not much separation between Moton and Williams at RT at least in the long term, but even after injury I have to believe that Williams having more experience would be better than Moton in the immediate future and that he would be a better RT than LG.

Moton is that rare bird you can just plug in pretty much anywhere on the line and he'd do well.

But,is it work?

Did Williams even play G?And he may don't want to play G too,he got high appraisal at T,that helps him get big concract next year.

So,i think LG goes to Moton or someone,though i don't like that.

I'm not sure, Williams at LG and Moton at RT is the best option. Maybe Moton is a little better than Williams at RG, but I think Moton would do much better at LG than Williams.

I'm not sure Williams is the best LG. Moton might be better at both RT or LG but it's more about Williams against the run. He's got quick feet for pass protection but some big DT's may push him around a little. Williams is a real good RT but Moton looks to be more versatile. If Little wins the LT spot, it could be Moton at LG. If Little doesn't win the job then the answer is simple, Moton at LT and Williams at RT.

The GM's, scouts and talent evaluators on The Huddle have been proposing this forever.  The Panthers staff however hasn't seemed very warm to the idea of Williams as a G.  It's possible they know something we don't.

It's also possible Daryl Williams himself is doing the math.  If he moves inside and does well the salary for a G is somewhat less than for a T.  Does he really want to be seen as a G?  I dunno.  Maybe.  One could argue that a guy who can legitimately claim to play both G and T at the NFL level is even more valuable, but how do Williams and his agent see it?

I think there's a lot going on here that we just don't see or understand.

Let's just hope Little can win the job. If not, likely going to be looking at another OL with some definitive weaknesses.

last word from Ron was that we have to figure out where to put Daryl and Moton.  We'll start practice and see how Little works, and make a decision then.  Most assume it will be Daryl at LG.

I thought they had been trying Williams at LT during OTAs. Not sure where I heard it, but I think that might be a good thing to try, at least for the moment. The guy was a starting caliber tackle before the injury and at least trying to transition him over there seems logical and let his understudy play LG for a while.

I think it's pretty safe to estimate the line will be-

Little - Williams - Paradis - Turner - Moton

Williams played at a 2nd Team All-Pro level in 2017, but due to our offense received a lot of TE help (Manhertrz), moving him inside (6'6'' / 335lbs)

1) Improves the pass pro at LG

2) Adds another mauler next to Little who's been criticized in the run game as a prospect

3) For what it's worth in Williams' rookie season he saw time at G if memory serves

Moton proved to be one of the leagues top RT's and with two years left on his rookie deal it makes little sense to obstruct that continuity, when Darryl is on a one year deal. 

All in all I'm happy we aren't throwing names out like Larsen, and GVR here as fans praying for a good season from them, I'm glad on paper they are back to depth.
