The backup RB battle.

I fear that too. Scarlett and Holyfield might be an interesting tandem behind CMC.

You know, Armah is a lucky dude.  I rarely notice him on the field, and nobody ever questions his roster spot.  I wonder....

Great video breakdown. Let's let the preseason play out. Between injuries and 3 games we'll find out but I like the possibilities with a more power back for short yardage (who ever) on the team. 2 and 3 won't play much so I wouldn't too much in to it.

Could’ve had CJ last year and let him walk... dude is better than everyone we have minus CMC.

This. Still shocked that we didn't use any 2 back sets with both him and CMC on the field at the same time.

Hell, could of thrown CMC in the slot, CJ as the back and RPO'd all day.

They didn't really have a backup to Cam last season either.  Not to mention a legit backup to Greg either. That crap flew back in their face.  If this team's front office is ignorant not to learn from their past mistakes, then they deserve every loss they get from being utter numb skulls.  Skill positions you need a #1 and 1A not a #1 and 4 posing as a #2 just because the front office is incompetent.

I could have sworn we drafted a solid replacement player at TE... and I also believe he played exceptionally well as a rookie behind Greg.

The Panthers drafted a 4th round project TE, you are correct, but how solid remains to be seen.  You  may have saw exceptional play, I saw plenty of rookie mistakes although Thomas did play better as time went on.   He is nowhere close to what Greg offers.  So a complimentary TE, perhaps?  In terms of skill set and knowledge, Greg's replacement Thomas is not.

how someone can call a 5th round pick a reach is beyond me.....

Easy, because nobody had CAP or Scarlet graded as 5th rounders.  Drafting a player before their projected round value is called a reach.

So we have already deemed that this kid will never be a good tight end? Also, so what would have been a good replacement of Greg then? Us spending millions on a backup tight end who would then serve as a backup until Greg gets hurt? Bc that’s how coaches and gm’s think.... this player WILL get hurt this year.... Cmon man, that’s is elementary thinking. Don’t be dumb.

Is that how it works? You draft the player for your team based on how everyone else rates them? Disregard the scouts and the research they have been doin on these players since they were in high school? Again, more elementary thinking.

CAP has done nothing to disprove that he was a reach in the 5th round. But he is also probably about average historically for a 5th rounder. Probably won't last long in the NFL after his contract is up here.

In my opinion, anything after the 4th round is pretty irrelevant. I may disagree on a "reach" guy, it really is highly unlikely to matter. Those later round picks rarely end up lasting past their rookie deals, if they even make it that far.

I was a little annoyed at the Scarlett pick because he was a later round projected guy but I kind of agree with the idea of gambling on guys with higher ceilings in the 5-7th rounds.

People look at the CAP situation entirely wrong.  Looking back he was actually a decent pick for a 5ht rounder.  He filled it cheaply for 4 years.

The problem is only 46 players are active on game days and they view him as a back up first down back.

Look at his early years, you had Stewart, Tolbert, and Fozzy.  He wasn't a backup to Fozzy and/or Tolbert he was the backup to Stewart.  If Stewart was hurt he became the starting primary RB.  They didn't need him active on game days if Stewart was health, even if Stewart got hurt you could let Tolbert handle those duties, not to mention we have a QB that could do some power running.  Even if he was "better" they wouldn't have him active because they have to sit someone.

Last year he backed up CMC and CJ.  Same thing, doesn't matter if he was a "better prospect" he isn't going to be active on game days.  That 3rd RB is a logical spot to make inactive on game days.  That is why I think filling it cheaply with a later draft pick is smart.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try to upgrade, but I really don't think it was as bad of a pick as people think.

People need to remember there are only so many carries to go around.  Even if you have 3 great RBs the coaches are still going to give the majority to the one that view as slightly better.  Playing CJ last year wouldn't have added to our rushing attack it would have just replaced what we already got out of CMC.  Even though I wouldn't mind seeing CMC having a bit of a reduced workload.
