The backup RB battle.

Recommended Posts

If CAP doesn't win the backup job, he's gone.  #3 is a developmental/ST role for a RB, and CAP has been here long enough and the coaches have seen enough that if he isn't going to be #2, they obviously don't see enough in him to expect anything more than we've gotten.  And while he has played some ST, it's been limited and he's been mostly invisible and not the type of ace that stays on a roster simply because of their ST ability.  Also, he just wouldn't be worth the vet salary he'd get compared to a late round/UDFA cap cost.

Unless he comes out having made significant development, Hood won't even be in the conversation, IMO.  He just doesn't offer anything more than the other guys.  Scarlett was a draft pick, and is likely the preferred option for the coaches, with Holyfield having the best chance making the team as the #3 back who will play mostly on ST as he develops (I actually think with his style and strength, Holyfield can be a demon on ST).  Bonnafon may stick around on the PS, but he's expendable if we need to stash another position on the PS.

I'm not holding my breath until guys actually start getting playing time or are actually activated on gameday.

How Artis-Payne has been able to last this long is beyond me, especially considering what happened with CJ Anderson.

I will never understand the CJ situation here. There was no excuse we used him so little, this coaching staff baffles me.

Just throwing this out there, if none of these guys are looking like legit #2 backs behind CMC and not merely placeholders on the 53-man roster, Jay Ajayi is still out there.  Yes he's coming off an ACL injury from  early last season, but when healthy this guys is the real deal!  We can get him cheap since no team wants to bite due to the ACL surgery, BUT we are talking about our #2 and not #1.  At the right price, this would not be a bad option.

I don't think they plan on using back up rb. Christian will be out there 90 percent snaps just like last year. Especially if wr still struggling. No way they gonna take him off the field. If they didn't use Anderson why would this situation be any different?

Scarlett showed he can truck college LBs and DBs, great, I'll give him that.  You need to have a lot more in your arsenal in the NFL.  Dude has no jump cut, juke, bend, lateral movement or ability to see developing holes.  It's hit the designed play gap and turn on the jets...very one dimensional  If he gets to the next level, he's hard to bring down, but getting to the next level will be hard for him because holes open and close in a split second in the NFL.

They didn't really have a backup to Cam last season either.  Not to mention a legit backup to Greg either. That crap flew back in their face.  If this team's front office is ignorant not to learn from their past mistakes, then they deserve every loss they get from being utter numb skulls.  Skill positions you need a #1 and 1A not a #1 and 4 posing as a #2 just because the front office is incompetent.

Good video. I still suspect that CAP will be the number two because Rivera gonna Rivera but I hope Scarlett can get up to speed and make a push for that role. He could be a solid option in 2-3 years if he buckles down and dedicates himself to getting better in all those aspects mentioned.

With these two young powerful runner here's hoping CAP is history!  Hood to the practice squad.  Armah may be a bubble boy.

I'm just really to move on from CAP. The guy has been on the roster for four years and has been inactive more often than not.  It's odd. We obviously like him enough to keep him around, but not enough to actually play him.

He's reliable and probably more valuable in practice and off the field than the others. Nobody is going to play with CMC on the roster. We have clearly seen that

Our second best running option is our million dollar franchise qb and it’s stupid and has been stupid.

Rivera says he wants to change that...he also said he wanted to change playing CMC into the ground...but hasn’t done so.

That is what is scary, the fact this team can’t find a good part time rusher that can take the hits and get the hard, short yardage. I don’t understand why it is so hard. CJ gave me hope just to have him sit on the bench and Cam and CMC driven into the ground.

I get it they’re playmakers and I’m not saying completely strip them of the opportunities every single time but they’re fooling themselves if they think there isn’t a price for it...or just don’t care.

we need a Tolbert (in his prime) type player and have for a long time.

I am starting to like this kid.  He actually puts out content on the panthers instead of just highlight crap.  Here he breaks down the backup RB battle and who he thinks will be the #2.  I would be happy if it turns out this way. I would rather have his #4 back swap with the #3.  But I would take this lineup.  I just want somebody to get some touches so we stop running CMC into the ground.

I am starting to like this kid. I'm impressed.
