Hall of Honor criteria

Eazy-E

Recommended Posts

I saw Igo tweeted out asking whether or not Charles Johnson deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Honor and the replies were all over the place. It got me thinking, what should the criteria be for a player to be inducted?

Lifetime Panther, pro bowls, All time Panthers stats leaders?

CJ is second all time in sacks, career Panther, but never went to a pro bowl. Walls spent half his career here and went to 5? Pro Bowls. There were people saying that CJ deserves to be in the Hall over Walls and Gross. That’s a bit ridiculous imo.

Should there be some sort of base line requirements that every player nominated has to meet? For example: if a player never made a Pro Bowl he can’t be nominated for the Hall. What do you guys think?

For team Hall of Honor it just cant be stars, All Pro selection or pro bowls.

Hall of honor needs to be players that define what a panther player should be either on the field or off.

Jake while not a great player fits in the selection he was a fan favorite and his fire and passion was important when he played.

Being a so-called "fan favorite" just doesn't do it for me. What did you do on the field---something measurable---that was outstanding? Is the Hall of Fame, based upon your play, within the realm of reality? Were you one of those guys who will always be a little short of making the Hall of Fame but it still feels right tk honor you? Did you do anything off the field to either buttress or diminish your standing as a teammate? Those are the types of questions I'd be asking.

And for me, players who don't at least sniff the HoF, or multiple Pro Bowls, can be honored in the hearts, mind and memories of Panthers fans, but they just wouldn't get in the Hall of Honor.

Sorry, Jake fans, I gotta be honest...I never expected Jake Delhomme to make it. Hell, since he made it, the floodgates must be open. Criteria? What Criteria?

Jake is more deserving than Steve Smith.

Flame away.

*Among the best in the league during their tenure with the Panthers

*Career Panther or locker room leader under which milestones were reached

*All-time Panthers stat leader (or close)

*First Panther to accomplish a certain feat.

I agree. Hoover was a fan favorite, does that mean he should be in the hall? Not in my opinion.

Maybe Jake is more deserving as a person considering he never sent any teammates to the hospital. However, Smitty was the best at his position or close to it for multiple seasons. Jake wasn't close even in 2005 when he made the probowl.

From a purely football perspective,  you don't have a leg to stand on. Without 89, Jake isn't in the Hall of Honor. Smith is within the Hall of Fame's shadow---on the doorstep at this very moment. Some of you simply hate Smitty (for obvious reasons) to the point where objectivity is nonexistent with any thought of him. And I've said it before that I see it as the apex of hypocrisy, because while he was here, you didn't hear all this Huddle hate.

Y'all ain't Thanos, dude, and Smitty ain't the Hulk. Y'all's hate is more like the Hulk after getting his ass kicked by Thanos.

Lol if people are shocked by Jake Delhomme making the Hall of Honor than they just haven’t been paying attention. If you don’t think Jake is a panther great than you just started following the team when Cam was drafted. This guy was took this team to their first ever Super Bowl. He led them to another NFC Championship game. He won 4 road playoff games which is no easy accomplishment.

Jake Delhomme was a Pro Bowl quarterback. He was the QB who helped Muhsin Muhammad get his big contract with Chicago. He was the QB to Steve Smith’s triple crown. If you don’t think Jake Delhomme deserves to be in the Hall of Honor, then you must want the HOH to consist of 3-5 players.

Also, yes, the Patriots honor gritty players. Their Hall of Fame consists of the likes of Drew Bledsoe, Steve Grogan, Vito Parilli, and Kevin Faulk.

If the second best QB in franchise isn’t worth celebrating, then let’s just nix this entire thing and only retire 89 and 90.

This is factually fAlse. The most touchdowns and passing yards Jake had in a season came when Steve Smith missed the year.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
