Why does Tre Boston have so many fan boys?

Because Colin Jones? Because he is a known commodity and we are fairly comfortable with the floor that he brings.

Its like calling up your ex when you are single and looking for some ass. Yea she can’t tackle but im not trying to marry her, just need someone that looks-the-part for a little while until I find something better.

Maybe. You are trading a guy in Adams last year that had clearly lost a step(pretty amazing it took until 38 for that to really show itself) and was a liability in coverage, for a guy that will clearly be a big liability in tackling. Gaulden didn't really look very good at anything, so it's hard to tell what we really value as a team at that position. If we really need a good cover guy back there and can deal with a bunch of missed tackles, maybe kick the tires on Boston. This is all assuming he doesn't want a salary we(and everyone else) is unwilling to pay. He damn sure isn't worth much more than a 1 year deal and at a price not too awful much above the vet minimum.

He signed two prove it deals and couldn't get a long term deal. He is looking for money and years, two things no one is giving him apparantly. He will be signed but if it's more than a year I dont want to be tied to him long term. I wonder what the correlation between him being "productive" and on a prove it deal is? Anywho, at least Searcy is gone. On to the next garbage safety I guess.

I don't see why they wouldn't, seeing as they have tried before, and looking at his career stats, he's progressed each year he's played.

Colin Jones, Rashaun Gaulden? I'd take my chances with Boston, and RR calling plays.

According to PFF the guy grades above average and allowed a 61 passer rating when targeted for 6th among safties? Why haven't we signed him again? He missed some tackles? Luke does too. Everyone does, it happens.

I mean it's just the fact that we have Colin Jones, even as a backup is a terrible, terrible idea.    Anyone at this point would be an upgrade.

Since we cut Searcy, the situation itself is just difficult to read. Do we really have faith in Gaulden? Even so, the depth looks extremely thin. Are we waiting for a roster cut later in the offseason/preseason? Do the remaining free agents want bigger contracts than we are willing to pay? Are we even interested in any of the remaining free agents?

I would have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that we are happy with our safety depth chart with Searcy getting jettisoned.

Part of it is his improvement on the field the last two years. I think his coverage skills could help us.

He's local. Based in / near CLT I believe, so a hope we could maybe get him a bit cheaper if he wants to be here.

He's a known name and a lively personality. Adds some spark to our D. (Jackson & Boston together could be fun.)

I admit I've been hopeful we'll sign him, but a big part is because I know who he is / have a good idea of what he could bring. So it's lazy for me to throw out his name above other safeties I know almost nothing about.

I liked him while he was here, never thought we should've met him walk so we could continue to develop him, and I thought he caught a lot of blowback from the failings of guys like Worley.

Then, after we let him walk, he had an almost pro bowl-worthy year with SD.  And then there's this about last season:

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-2019-free-agency-profile-tre-boston

"On his third team in the past three seasons after signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, Tre Boston put together another productive season. Boston was the 24th highest-graded safety and his 74.1 overall grade was the second highest-graded season of his young, five-year career. He allowed 18 receptions on 30 targets for 189 yards and two touchdowns while breaking up seven passes and intercepting another three."

So, yeah, I would rather have that than an unknown in Gaulden, who I personally don't think will amount to much.

I can understand why you would want to take a flier on Boston (and I can understand why others balk at the idea), but I don't know why you and others are being so negative about Gaulden. You don't think he'll amount to much based on what...a feeling? Gaulden was arguably his team's best---no worse than second best---player during his senior season. He is a smart guy and hard worker.  I think people need to have a little less of an attitude regarding the young man, at least until he gets a legit opportunity to swim or sink (like Boston had) before being so decidedly negative.

There are legit reasons why people aren't warm to the idea of Boston returning, but no real reasons to cross out Gaulden before he gets his shot (if he gets a shot).

I really want somebody to explain this to me.  He's always been a below average safety.  Bad tackler, poor effort, and bad decisions.  That's not good traits for a safety playing beside Eric Reid.  He's 26, the prime of his career but nobody will offer him a deal including the three teams he has already played for (who only wanted him for 1 year and then said "nope")

People hated him when he was here.  Do people want him because he was a former unc player?  Is it because he played for the Panthers before?

I completely believe we need to sign a FA safety but I hope it's not Boston.

I'd love to know where they came from, because they weren't here when Tre was a Panther.

The masses were running him out of town with pitchforks and torches, threatening him to never come back again!!
