Okay, let's assume that either Feeley or Moore come out and play like the reincarnation of Johnny Unitas. No question whether they will be first string next year. Not a single doubt in anyone's mind.

What do we do? We keep Jake as the back up. He knows the playbook, he can obviously lead the team, he'll support the starting QB. He'll cost us a pretty penny, but he'll be there on the bench if the first stringer goes down to injury.

He might throw some INTs, might cost us a game. Or he might come off the bench and be Good Jake.

If he comes out bad, then its no worse than most backup QBs would do. If he comes out as Good Jake, he could lift the team and go with them. And then it would be a question of how do you take him off the field? And that's not the worst situation to be in.

And he would be a good mentor to any project QB that we pick up.

IMO Jake's best days are behind him, but I do agree that the fan base is going to have to get used to Jake being around for the foreseeable future, if for no other reason than the significant financial obligation that the front office has shackled itself with. I could actually see us going after The Golden Calf of Bristol if he somehow fell to the 2nd round in 2010 but the Jags' owner is said to be infatuated with him and they really need to sell tickets badly. IF Jake sticks around, Tony Pike may be a better choice at QB with our first 2010 pick and he could sit the bench for 1-2 years; he's got good size, intangibles and decision-making skills but the big knock against him is arm strength. Playing behind Jake and Josh McCown may give him time to work on this, but this is another discussion.

After the way he's been playing of late, are you sure you'd want him mentoring anyone we bring in? Unless he becomes like a big brother type i.e. staying out of trouble, being a stand-up guy, etc., but I'm not sure about the rest of the skills necessary to be a successful QB.

For the last time, Delhommes extention was not for 20 million guaranteed. Hurney said on the radio that that number was too high. Also, remember that Delhomme was set to make between 11 and 12 million this year to begin with. So overall, by cutting Jake at the end of this year will only cost the Panthers a couple million. And they have cut players and lost more than that in the past.

Maybe...but as I said earlier in another thread, his problem is that he panics under pressure. We don't need another David Carr.

And he has fumblitis.

I say we start fresh and look for a QB in the draft next year. And find a proven veteran in FA. While Campbell could be a good thought, hes just a little too risky.

I actually like the idea and I think Campbell would do well in this offense. The concern I have is he's lost 9 fumbles this year and his decision-making can be suspect at times. I'm sure you can make an agrument that a makeshift OL and the turmoil surronding the team, among other things, is having an impact on how poorly he's performing. He was one of the more accurate QBs in the NFL not that long ago, and I'm sure with the right supporting cast he can get back to that performance level again.

It all depends on who the coach is next year but I think no matter who that ends up being we will probably see a FA and a draft pick at the QB position. Let's just say Gruden was to be the coach next year, I doubt that Campbell would even be on the radar but if Fox ends up staying then I would think that Campbell would be very high on the list. So many different coaching options that it really makes looking for the right type of QB impossible at this point unless you just go ahead and assume that Fox will be back.

And, has been rightly said, Jake's contract does not guarantee 20 mil, but the organization will still lose that much and maybe more if changes aren't made.
