James Bradberry is heading into the last year of his 4 year deal. He'll be a FA going into the 2020 season. What do you think the front office is thinking in terms of a possible contract extension?

He's a hard guy for me to evaluate. Overall he's been fairly solid. He doesn't give up a lot of big plays and is a decent tackler.  But, I don't think anyone would classify him as a shutdown corner or a play maker.  Last year he only had one interception; and he only has a total of 5 in 3 NFL seasons. The top CB's in the league command over $10 mil per year. Is Bradberry worth that? At the same time, if we let him go it could come back to haunt us like the loss of Norman did. Outside of D. Jackson I don't think we have any dependable CB's on the current roster which means we'll have to draft someone in 2020 or sign a pricey FA.

I know it's early, but do you guys have any thoughts on upcoming issue?

Hes solid.  give him a solid deal and move along.  He fits us.  He plays well.  Hes quiet. Done and done.

It’s risky to go into the season without trying to extend him now. He could easily play himself out of our price range with a 4 int season or something along those lines.

I'd give him 8 to 10 mil a year.. Very respectful contract for a solid CB..

I was thinking the same thing. On paper the d-line has improved which should improve the pass rush. A better pass rush leads to more rushed/errant throws which leads to more INT opportunities for the secondary.

James is good enough to start on well over half the teams in the NFL. Quality CB's are hard to find, so I tend to lean towards resigning him before the season ends if possible.

He needs to be extended. The shutdown corner is almost non existent in the NFL and he does a very good job week in and week out, after facing the teams best receiver the majority of the time

It would be a mistake to low ball him, that is for sure. We are already thin enough at CB and even though he does not produce a lot of INT's he is a very good CB. I couldn't see giving him top 5 CB money but we should at least start in the range of market value. 

Imagine the depth chart we have now and trying to replace him. Shades of Gettleman's panic CB draft......

anywhere from 5-9 mill would be completely fine with me. Quiet and respectful, I could see him having a very long career. Solid player, deserves a solid contract.

Let's be realistic here. Bradberry is a really good cover guy and a more-than-willing tackler. He'll demand top dollar as a FA. His performance against the top WRs in the division speaks for itself - in a division with some of the top QB/WR combinations in the NFL. He'll get paid and the Panthers should plan to be the ones to do it. A contract averaging $12M a year should do it. Maybe 4 years with $30M guaranteed.

The way the ghost of Hurney 1.0 came back executed the 2nd day of the draft, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him offer him a big money extension.

We need to keep him. He's a very solid cover corner who match up excellently with the bigger WRs in the league and guess what, three of the top ones are in our division with Julio, Mike Evans, and Michael Thomas. Bradberry matches up excellently against those guys.

No, he's not a playmaker on the ball. He's never going to to be a big INT guy, but that's also what will almost certainly prevent him from getting elite CB money.
