Panthers don’t pick up Butler’s fifth-year option

I'm always amazing that a group of "fans" will rip a current Panther due to their hate of a GM that left 2 years ago.  I swear I think some of you guys are just NO, ATL, or TB fans here to stir poo up. I'd like to see him have a solid year, 5-6 sacks, and net us a comp pick while helping us win games.  I think some of you would rather see him fail in order to justify your hate of Gettleman.

Its a reasonable debate to question or second guess the wisdom of Gettleman's choice, but there is no reason to bash Butler here.  It's not his fault he was probably taken a round or two too early and did not live up to your expectations.

And not without consequences. When you miss on draft picks, you have to replace them with veterans who cost more. Eventually it can create salary cap issues.

Could've been worse... Could have been sandwiched between two other horrendous draft classes where only one pick ended up being worth a damn in each like Hurney did in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Instead, it's sandwiched between drafts that netted the team Shaq, DWill, CMC, Moton, Samuel, and Armah (plus Butker had he not been cut in favor of Gano).

Who is bashing Butler? All that has been said in here is that he was a wasted pick, a bust, etc. I don’t think any of that is unfair or suggests that people are rooting for him to fail. No one is attacking him personally.

When you have a former first round pick who is entering his 4th year and was a healthy scratch for most of last season (despite a weak d-line), it’s justified to question that pick or even call it a bust.
