How Much Faith Do You Have In Our 2019 Pass Rush?

Will our Pass Rush Be Any Good This Season?

  1. 1. What do you think?

    • It will be great and we will be in the top 5 teams in sacks
    • It will be good , top 12 team in sacks
    • We will be average in sacks but generate a lot of pressure and turnovers
    • We will be a little better than last season, but still not enough to consistently get to the QB
    • We will be about the same as last year (pretty bad but not the worst)
    • We will be at the bottom of the league in getting to the opposing QBs and Hurney/Rivera get fired mid season as a result

All I'm willing to concede at this time is we should be improved compared to last year. We have more athleticism and speed to rotate around Addision and Poe.

Last year -- the rushers excluding the above were -- Peppers (37), Horton (Not really a pass rusher), Obaba, Cox Jr (Unproven / UDFA talent), Haynes 4th round rookie (but came out of Ole Miss as a pass rush specialist) served a limited role on our defense

This year -- Irvin is a proven pass rusher at the NFL level, Burns by all accounts is a FREAK of a talent, height, speed, length, Miller also proved productive and is of similar stature, and athleticism, now factor in the prior year depth, Obada, Cox Jr. Haynes all having another year under them and I feel good about things.

So at the very least we are set up to be better, the rest is TBD, but I like our chances to improve, not to mention the additions (Irvin, Burns, Miller) gives us speed off the edge like we've never really had, and also allows us to do more from multiple even / odd fronts. Better disguising our pressure from the veteran QBs we face in our division and out should also help us go a long way in getting home to the passer.

All I know is that it usually takes 2 years to switch from a 4-3 to 3-4. I know we are going hybrid but they are still going to be a fair amount of growing pains, which equals to us getting shredded.

I voted a slight improvement but not consistent QB pressure.

can you explain why you think that?

Talent

Changing schemes to, something the other teams havnt seen from us and less to study on.

Potential to be top 5.  Just overall talent.  People are busting KK's balls around here, and he did have a off year this year.  But rrally the year before, was up with the top DTs (other than Donald)

Poe seemed more natural in the 3-4 in KC, so moving him back there.

Burns is a elite level edge rusher and imo would easily be a top 10 or even 5 (to 3-4 teams) in about every other class.  He was just unfortunate that 3 QBs went, 2 ILBs went, and guys like Bosa, Josh Allen etc were in this class and went ahead

Other guys such as Haynes who are oozing with potential.  Our defense is moving to be more suited to their strengths

Honestly Im having a hard time envisioning this 3-4 stuff, can someone explain it more to me? Or is it just still up in the air how exactly its going to be implimented and who is going to play where? I'm presuming Luke and Shaq are in MLBs and then who are the OLBs? Will Burns be rotating from OLB and DE? Can he even play DE in 3-4 or 4-3?

Found this on youtube...

This should give you more of an idea.

Fast forward to 4:09 for examples

Good post, I think those on the ''full 3-4 train'' need to pump the breaks a bit, I think we will remain multiple overall, 4-3 base, with the Odd fronts to help disguise and manufacture pressure.

Not to mention our 4 down Nickel rush is not fast, but the rotation is deep - (Addison, Irvin, Burns, Miller, Haynes, Obada, or Cox)

Super skeptical. IF ifi ififififififiifififiifiiififiififif Ron makes the perfect calls and Burns & Miller are ready. IF the DBs keep coverage. KK, Addison, Cox can bounce back. Then the pass rush would be back.

Short  13 sacks

Addison 12 Sacks

Burns 10 sacks

Miller 9.5 sacks

Irvin 7 sacks

Kuechly 6 sacks. Luke is gonna feast this year in a 3-4

Love 5 sacks

Thompson 4.5 sacks

Haynes 3.5 sacks

Poe 2 sacks

Donte Jackson 2 sacks

Eric Reid 2 sacks

Hell we may break the record for sacks. We may shatter it.
