If you know someone in your life is struggling, give them a call

Lost a good college buddy today. Hadn't seen or spoken to him in years. It's tough to keep up with folks when you live 1500+ miles away. I'd heard through the grapevine that he'd been going through some pretty serious substance an issues for awhile now. Always meant to give him a call if for nothing else just to let him know I was thinking about him, because I was. I'd like to say that I was just too busy, but that's never the truth. I don't care who you are or what you do, you can always carve out a few minutes for a phone call. The bottom line is that I just never prioritized it and now he's gone and I regret the hell out of it.

So sorry for your loss, man. Been there and lost one of those friends, too. It's like you know there's a distance and there's a problem they're having, but somehow there's this little fence to cross or some kind of life hurdle to clear. I regret not making that effort for my friend, too.

Been there man, I'm really sorry to hear that. Local musician I knew through the scene here randomly killed himself on Easter 3 years ago. Shocked everyone - he was a prominent and very talented guy. A lot of times people who are suffering keep it quiet and no one knows they are hurting until it's too late. Gotta take even the slightest indication of depression seriously.

I'm honestly not sure if it was suicide or if he literally drank himself to death. Either way, it's basically one in the same. He knew where he was with his drinking problem. Another good buddy had recently told me that the last time he went to his apartment to physically take him to rehab that he went armed. It had evidently gotten to THAT point.

Dang, I'm sorry to hear all that man. Bless your heart.

This is why I try to hang out with my friends or at least stay in contact as much as possible. Life is extremely unpredictable.

Yep, it's just tough when you grew up in NC, went to college in VA, and you've lived in CO for the past 13 years. I see who I can when I'm back home, but it's tough.

Oh i'm sure. My wife & I are about to separate & possibly divorce, so I've been looking at jobs outside NC. Now I'm not so sure I want to.
