Breaking down the breakdown

Kemo is/was the difference.

Kemos is one guy. Yea he would've made a huge difference but I think our defensive play in the second half was the real difference. With Kemo there I don't think he couldve done much.

Also the only reason they scored in OT was that big run by Jacobs. Honestly both defenses were so tired by the end of the game that run could have happened to us or them.

Bad break for us honestly and good break for them.

I feel a whole lot better today about the loss than I did last night. We took them to overtime, in their stadium, despite having key injuries as well as some conservative playcalling (particularly in the latter part of the first half). It seems like we were going to try and sit on the lead and hope the Giants did score again.

Anyway, I'm over it now. Time to get a win at New Orleans.

Fatigue is probably the largest single factor, but consider that the Giants had the ball for 39:07 compared to the Panthers 25:56 and you can see why the defense was fatigued.

The Panthers have turned into a quick-strike, all-or-nothing offense. Either everything is clicking or they go three-and-out. Against a team like the Giants, that's a disaster in the making.

Heard a good point from Garcia on the radio tonight.

Fox generally prefers to rush only the front four (sometimes three) rather than risk leaving an open spot in coverage and possibly give up a big play.

Generally speaking, I'd agree with that, especially when you're facing an offense with receiver weapons that have big play potential.

If, on the other hand, you're facing an offense whose receivers don't scare anybody, why not blitz a little more?

The Giants fit that profile perfectly, and yet in the second half it seemed we toned it down on both the pass and the run blitzes. Given that a little interior blitzing might have shored up that weak middle, wouldn't it have made more sense?

So why not?

Got me

I am about finished re-watching the game.

We realy shot ourselves in the foot when they pinned us at the 1 and we just ran it 3 times. That is coaching, and I hope Fox learns from it.

Not too many options that deep. You hope the back pops out for a first down. The Giants lead the league in safeties and blitzed the hell out of it.

Screen it over the blitz (and don't pull an Orlovsky).

Have you noticed over the years how poorly we execute screens. I keep seeing in my minds eye the ball getting batted up in the air and the Giants waltzing in with a TD. I would rather take my chances that 3 DW or JS runs will get me 10 yards. Its not like we suck at running the ball.

I think this is where the "Panthers are already in the playoffs" would be inserted. Fox was playing to win the game but I don't think he was willing to go all out.

Kemo is/was the difference.

That coupled with the fact we played like we had a Top 5 defense. When we jumped ahead we were getting about 50/50 pass to throw but after the quick scoring and our Defense stopping manning on a few downs we wend to about 60\30 Run. Now yes Dwill did have some luck with running inside but i could see from my TV that the Giants were Run Dog blitzing after being gashed but yet we didnt even adjust one bit let our defense get tired and let the Gmen back in the game. We adjusted very poorly this game and it showed.
