I just can't justify trading a pick on a guy like that. If he isn't able to come in even after the preseason and get up to speed in a few weeks, I don't think training camp is going to add much value in terms of development time. He's learning with the Patriots now, in that case. We would be better suited to just trading for/signing someone who really can help us day one and not be a blind gamble.

You can take a tiny gamble, and sign someone. Sending a 7th for a guy making nearly the min doesn’t stop you from signing someone. But if ur talking about trading for someone who can join the team and be the answer at FS, that’s a 3rd round and up type player heck w players like frank clark going for a 1st going on a franchise tag it would cost more. Obi is a cheap option, that might be able to develop. Even if he doesn’t develop at all, he would be an amazing special teamer and could take Colin Jones spot instantly.

I just don't think we are going to see eye to eye on this. I view Obi as a guy just waiting for a couple of more teams to figure out he isn't an NFL player before we never see him in the league again. If he couldn't even make an impact on the Pats special teams, I am not sure why you would think he is anywhere near the level of special teams player Colin Jones is.

As for upgrading at FS, well it shouldn't be too hard to find someone that is better than the guys we have. But, I think the reality is that we aren't going to make any changes there unless we get hit with the injury bug. We had ample opportunity to take care of that spot in free agency and the draft. Perhaps we pull a Eric Reid and attempt to make a late signing but I am not sure if I would call that scenario the norm for us. Seemed more like a desperation move.

True haha I think we have very opposing opinions. But, it was nice debating this with you I can tell you have great insight and you know what ur talking ab greatly. And the one thing I know we agree on is, how important our safety need is. Sadly ur so right unless some injury big happens we will stick with who we have on the roster. Also I’m curious about what you think ab Eric Reid?

Would you be willing to send a 7th rounder to the pats for Obi? I remember everyone wanting him in the draft a couple years back, he’s an athletic freak and could definitely be depth at safety. With the chance at developing into a FS. New England seems willing to trade him, I think it’s worth a shot low risk high reward. We are really the only team that could offer him a chance to truly develop, and we could reap the rewards. I know people are scared to trade with the pats, but this is a situation which limits what we lose.

wtf you talking about?

Reid was a good signing and should solidify our strong safety spot for the next few seasons. It turned out to be a shrewd signing because some of the initial safety contracts were nuts. We just need to add someone on the back end that has high end cover skills.
