Was holding out for the kid from Tatooine.  Heard he was a real force.  Obi is a fan.  With some good coaching, they're thinking, "Next great thing, he could be."

what?

Never called him the answer, but I do believe he is a better option then anyone on our roster currently. I’d rather have someone with upside then players who have no shot at being anything, even if the panthers traded for him there’s still a need at FS. Which would be filled hopefully soon, but Obi is solid depth and like I said he could maybe develop.

I am gonna have to disagree with that. I wouldn't trade a 6th or 7th rounder away for him because he really isn't any better than a 6th or 7th rounder and we need someone that actually is capable of being more than a rare special teams contributor. I would rather stick with Searcy, Gaulden, Jones. At least they have some playing time in the NFL.

What’s ur rationale behind saying no?

Because he's just not good

He was the ol Combine King

Who's college film never really stood out but blew up the combine and got drafted high just because measurables

He never came close to panning into anything his first team.  About time they cut him, the organization questioned his heart for the game and if he even wanted to play football (HUGE redflag).  This combined with a few injuries, he was cut.  After he was cut and cleared waivers (no one really wanted him), he was picked up by NE where he hasn't done anything.

So no

I dont want a athlete, who people were hyped for his tools coming out.  Who has been cut and questioned his hesrt for the game.  Who also has injuries

He11 might as well call Jeff Otah to see what he's up to these days.

Sure Obi could be another combine warrior who does absolutely nothing with his career, it even looks like it’s heading that way. But, in my opinion  he is atleast worth a 7th rounder. He’s even worth a 5th rounder with Hurnys ability’s in later rounds lol. Look at the talent even in this last years draft of the 6-7 rounds, their not very good. And let’s be real, searcy and jones and even gaulden are complete jags, sure Obi right now is a jag. But he is a jag that was insane potential, this is a small investment. Obi is a long shot but I’m so sick of this organization, undervalueing the safety position, I would take this chance every oppurtunity I get to acquire a player like Obi for next to nothing.

I agree with everything you have said. Except the film part, he did look pretty dominant on film.

But, I’m not saying Obi is the answer. I just think taking a small chance on a freak athlete at the one position this organization neglects every chance it gets is not the worst idea. Also, at the very least he is depth and I’m sure we would all prefer Obi over Colin jones lol.

But why would you waste a draft pick, even a meaningless draft pick on a guy that is going to get cut and be freely available?

I agree  that’s best case scenario, but that extra time learning in our system would be very important for him especially. And it’s not certain he will be cut, it is likely. Also, after seeing us trade a 7th for Kevin Seymour and I think a 4th or a 5th for Andy Lee only for him to leave the team a year later. Also a conditional 6th for marshal Newhouse. It’s a small payment I’m willing to take.

Other teams might value him to if he’s cut.

I just can't justify trading a pick on a guy like that. If he isn't able to come in even after the preseason and get up to speed in a few weeks, I don't think training camp is going to add much value in terms of development time. He's learning with the Patriots now, in that case. We would be better suited to just trading for/signing someone who really can help us day one and not be a blind gamble.

Really? He will probably be cut after preseason

Key word “probably”, also other teams will for sure be after him. And since when did a 7th round pick mean so much, Kevon Seymour cost us a 7th lol.
