Obada is more athletic than Delaire, maybe the same hype / fan excitement but the athleticism difference is pretty pronounced.

No the similarities is the fan base falling in love with a player who really isn't going to be a big part of this team..

Pretty much. Although with Addison and Burns they could certainly play a 4-3 or hybrid from time to time. I do believe the 3-4 will be their most common look. Even the Panthers roster on their webpage alludes to that with the "OLB/DE" designation for the first time.

Of we are actually going 3-4 more than 4-3 I think we will see another DL.  I would guess they go get Bailey now that we have 3-4 parts.  Need more of a rotation at 3-4 DE.

If that’s the case they will carry 5 WR.

Pretty much the exact same player.

I would have compared Damiere Byrd as well, but Delaire works because it's the same position.

Everybody roots for the underdog, and I'm no exception.

I also have a pretty realistic understanding that the underdog is an underdog for a reason.

Typical 3-4 team will carry six or seven defensive linemen. Generally that's structured as being two deep at both defensive end spots and two or sometimes three deep at nose tackle.

It varies, of course. I've seen 3-4 teams carry five defensive ends before. Hell, one year the Steelers opened the season with ten linebackers on their roster.

I agree, I'm thinking at least 6.

DE- Short / Love / Cox

DT - Poe / Butler

That's only 5.  I think we try to pick up someone else at some point.  Also I expect Butler to play DE some based on down and distance, but they had him at NT some last year.

This is my best guess atm. Of course, we really don't know where some of these guys will be until after the battle for that position.

To me, I think Little might be a little raw to stick at LT in his rookie season. I think we try him out at LG and then when Williams leaves, put him at RT or have him battle it out with Moton at LT and whoever loses goes to RT. I'm just glad we are finally investing in the line.

On D, I see Irvin at least starting out in the beginning until Miller or someone else takes over. Thing I'm concerned about is lack of 3-4 DL, but we might be alright with 3 on the field and 2 backups. If they want a 3rd guy, they can cut one of our DEs or LBs. However, after looking at the chart, the possible candidates for that at DE look to be Cox or Obada. I wouldn't want those 2 gone because we need them for the 4-3 rotation. The LB I could see as a possible cut is whoever the 7th 4-3 LB is, which I have as Antione Williams. However, if we let him go then we wouldn't have much depth for 3-4 ILBs and he's the only experienced 3-4 ILB we have on the roster.

I'll also have to wait and see how Cox and Obada would fit in the 3-4, if at all. Addison at least has a little experience at 3-4 OLB but Cox and Obada don't. They have found their success as 4-3 DEs and Rivera may want to keep them in that role for depth purposes. Besides, we already have plenty of bodies for 3-4 OLB.

One other thing I'd like to see is someone stepping up at punt returner. It looked like we had our guy last year in Byrd until he got hurt. This is something really important that can shift the game in your favor. We really need someone here and if no one on the roster can do it, we should find someone else that can. I do not want any of our stars doing it. We don't have anyone else on the roster other than CMC or Moore with NFL experience at this.

I also thought about something that made me chuckle today. What if all this 3-4 talk just depends on Burns standing up or with a hand on the ground? We can be in the nickel in 4-2 and Burns stands up then suddenly we are 3-3. Or normal 4-3 and he stands up and suddenly we're 3-4. It could be we're all taking this a little too seriously lol.

I know Rivera talked about he'd like no subs when we want to switch to 3-4, but I really don't see how he can avoid subbing out Addison for a NT/DE in the 3-4 unless he views Addison ahead of Irvin and Miller at 3-4 OLB.

Why does everyone keep putting Love at NT and Butler at DE in our 3-4?  We ran some 3-4 alignments at the end of last year.  People should look at those to get an idea of who might play where.

Take out the 5th Safety to add - Obada

Take out Kyle Allen to add - Seymour at corner

Take out Jared Norris add - Elijah Holyfield

I'd rather see the S, QB, and LB on the PS

Kyle Allen wouldn’t make it thru waivers if cut. He played too well last year to cut. Especially for some JAG corner

    • Meh. He played well on the special teams units but despite safety becoming a dire position we needed a warm body at, he was a complete non-factor on defense to justify keeping him around. He averaged 10.2 defensive snaps per game across 12 games last year and couldn't overtake Howden or Abram for the position (both of whom were brought back this year). Maybe he'll play better at CB for y'all but I wouldn't hold out much hope. As mid of a head coach Allen may be, he knows his stuff regarding the secondary so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on it.
    • couple more things re: extreme hots and colds and the EV use tax. In the winter months, I can confirm that the range isn't as far, but it has never given me range anxiety except the first time I made a trip to Myrtle Beach and wasn't accounting for it. I just had to detour and use a Supercharger for 5 min and the rest of the trip was no issue. Summer months have never been an issue at all.  NC has a $140.25 EV Registration fee every year, which amounts to the gas/use tax for ICE.
    • Just seeing this thread, and after browsing, I figured I would drop in and add my 2 cents. I hope this answers some of the questions or misconceptions that I have noticed.   I have owned a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus since Dec 2020, and love it. Absolute best car I have ever personally owned.  Current daily driver of 100 miles round trip to work and back.  Level 2 Charger at home in Garage.   The battery in my car was still designed to charge to ~80% for daily usage, only going above for trips etc preferably. The current batteries they recommend to charge to 100%.   1st year was in an apartment, 40 miles round trip at that point. Would highly depend on public level 2 charger at the library near me, and would also use 110v at work occasionally on weekends. Supercharger for travel. It wasn’t the most optimal, but I made it work. No maintenance in this year outside of tire rotations.   Years 2+, I am now driving 100 miles round trip to work. Level 2 charger in my garage.  I get home from work at ~25% charge, and charge back to my daily 80% in ~3.5hrs. On 110v, you can expect that will be over 24hrs. So for daily driver usage you will want a level 2 charger. For piddling around town, 110v will probably be fine. I had a part fail that was covered under warranty, and tire replacement/rotations for maintenance.     Tires: I have 99k+ miles on my car currently. I will put my 2nd set of tires on it at ~110k.   When I have had people ask me how I like my car, I always show them these 2 pages from the Tesla app. The numbers there are based on what I pay for kWh ($0.11) vs est cost of gas in NC at $3.93 per gallon. People who are concerned about the higher cost vs ICE probably don’t figure in the gas savings, or time/cost getting oil changes etc.  My car payment isn’t that much higher than any other car I’ve owned (shrug).   I know this is personal, and I don’t like the guy either, but I would not let Musk keep me from owning the brand. Thats like Henry Ford keeping you from owning Ford for, well….   Tesla currently have the best charging infrastructure for travel. Longest trip I have made is to Williamsburg VA from Triangle region. No issues getting there, no range anxiety etc. Sure stops can take longer for charging etc, but they are mostly setup at restaurants, gas stations etc for breaks, but ideally you’re not charging back to full at a stop. The best way to travel is to charge enough for you to get to the next stop. It’s faster at the batteries get juice faster when they are lower.  I have never seen another brand using Tesla superchargers tho I have heard it’s coming. But I have seen assholes pull their boats horizontally in charging stations 😉   If you are curious about how an EV would play into travel, check out https://abetterrouteplanner.com . Put in any EV you want, it will show you the path, time and time per charge etc. Great tool.
