Drafts past. Playoffs for other sports going on so question. Are the Carolina Hurricanes more relevant in the Carolina's now than the Hornets?

This would make for an interesting thread: What is the most popular team FROM each state? Yes, some states prefer a team across the border because they don't have a pro team ... but it'd be interesting to see what team rules each state. Here, the Yankees obviously. What about Georgia? The Braves or the Falcons? North Carolina? Is it Duke, the Heels, or the Panthers? Do the Noles or Gators rule FLA or do the Dolphins or Heat get that honor?

Perhaps I'll make the thread.

I think you will find that in the South that college sports is king by a wide margin. A WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE margin. A lot of that is because professional sports is relatively new to a lot of the Southern areas, whereas the larger cities have had beloved professional franchises for decades.

An interesting case would be Texas. I suspect college football would win out but the Dallas Cowboys have been successful and around for a long time.

George Shinn. Although he presided over the most successful version of the franchise, the way they left Charlotte created a lot of bad feelings towards the franchise. Bob Johnson just started the years of mismanagement that Jordan has continued.

I figured.

That said, I know the whole "Bobcats" thing was pretty stupid and definitely pissed some people off. Probably not as much as putting a lousy team on the court, though.

Yeah, it was highly egotistical but I can forgive a bad name for wins. 2 playoff appearances(and only two seasons with a winning record) in 10 seasons is not going to win a lot of support.

Doesn't really sound like Jordan's doing much better.

Like I said, I don't follow the team that closely but I do hear a fair share of sports radio. I know that at a certain time of year, there are Hornet fans predicting that this season's going to be different. And then a little further down the road, lots of fans lamenting that it isn't.

I know a while back there was plenty of speculation that maybe the new GM was going to do something better. Is it just not working out?

The best way to find that out would be a big poll in each state. I have seen similar efforts but I don't know if it was across all sports. That would be a great thing to see, though.

You'd have to split California I guess, but I'd rather see who rules each state. Not too sure the Longhorns would beat the Cowboys though. Then you'd have some states where hockey would win ... and in Connecticutt, women's basketball!

NBA success is completely dictated by having access to superstar caliber players, if you don't have one or more, you aren't going anywhere(save for maybe a Gregg Popovich coached team). Right now the only player in that discussion is Kemba Walker. In the 29 year history of the franchise, we have probably only had a handful of elite players and most of them were on the pre-2000 Hornets. That's a problem. Also take into account that a lot of the talent we had stockpiled left to New Orleans with Hornets 1.0. The rebuilt Bobcats/Hornets have been awful...just awful at drafting. Literally just Kemba Walker since that time.

Dollars to donuts that either the Patriots or Red Sox would win CT.

Pretty much. When you think about it, the only Southern states that are well known for non-college sports are Texas (Dallas Cowboys), Virginia (Washington Redskins) & maybe Georgia (Atlanta Braves) & that's it

The South literally own NCAA sports. The Northeast own the NFL, Midwest own NHL, the West own NBA & MLB is a toss-up.

NASCAR? Eh, who cares :eyeroll:

The NBA is trash, it’s not the same as back in the day.

It isn't the same but the skill level of the players is leaps and bounds better than 30 years ago. Many of the players from that era would have an extremely difficult time competing in the modern NBA because the game is played so much different now.

I travel the country for my job(for the past 12 years or so) and I have literally never heard anyone ever mention the Hornets nor ever seen any Hornets gear outside NC/SC. I have seen Panthers gear and very rarely Hurricanes gear. Never Hornets gear.

In fact, I have a "Charlotte" hat(old Bobcats cap with "Bobcats"/logo on the side) ballcap that I wear frequently. I get questioned all the time on what team that it is. Oddly, people seem to think that it is a Panthers cap. That's how little the Hornets are on a national radar. That is the problem with the Hornets, they haven't been relevant nationally SINCE the LJ and Zo days.

Well I'm a truck driver and I've definitely seen alot of Hornets gear never seen Hurricanes stuff.. Retro Hornets gear is very much wanted especially in the hip hop community..

We just had the allstar game here.. What is the NHL bringing to Raleigh??

I think you would be pretty surprised if you polled NC based "casual" sports fans how many didn't know who Kemba Walker was. The thing that most will probably know is that MJ is the owner. The Hornets are a very faded presence due to being one of the worst franchises in the NBA over the past 20 years.

Really?? What part of the state are you talking about?? The places with the most population definitely know who Kemba Walker is..
