Panthers had Grier ahead of Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones

He has a super long release, very much struggled against exotic blitz packages, and really didn't show that much outside of his system. He can definitely play, but he has a super limited ceiling IMO.

Yeah, his flaws are pretty obvious. The only characteristic that he has that typically translates well to the NFL is having that high completion percentage in college. Other than that, it is a lot of NFL red flags.

But, I think once he plays(preseason) and struggles here, people will be a lot more realistic about him and not look at him as some sort of savior if Cam goes down or replacement if Cam leaves in free agency. Either of those two options are horrifying to even think about.

Love ya, Scotty, but I gotta question your sanity on this if you truly believe that "nobody's thinking it".

Lemme put it this way: I don't believe anybody talking about it on here is thinking it.

As to the general public, there are people who think the world is flat, the Holocaust didn't happen and the moon landing was faked. I'm not trying to account for the outliers.

This was the Turner's pick not Hurney. And let's see what they can do. They certainly helped Cam last year and covered up his noodle arm until it was obvious to everyone he couldn't throw down field because of injury.   The coach has a lot to do with how a QB develops over his first couple of seasons.

"Speaking of long-held affections, the Panthers’ love for local kid Will Grier was well-documented. How much did they love him? I’m told he was the third-ranked quarterback on Carolina’s board, behind only Lock and Haskins."

i had a two day old pair of underwear ahead of Jones.

Yep! Cam was most certainly a bigger risk with bigger stakes.

I also think that the Turner effect is larger than many realize, and that's  probably a good thing. They know a little more than Hurney does about quarterbacks.

Norv does. I'm not convinced on Scott yet.

Go find the video of the call the Panthers made to Grier after the pick and skip to the part where Ron puts Norv on the phone.

Will Grier: Thank you guys so much for believing in me.

Norv: You can thank Scott for that.

"You can thank Scott for that."

Saw it, but you'll also notice that Grier thanks Norv for "making it happen". I don't think that's an accident. It's also been confirmed by Rivera that both Norv and Scott "raved" to him about Grier.

Scott may be the one driving the train, but I still believe Norv is a willing passenger on it.

It’s about to be 2012 and 2014 on these boards again, lol. I still remember when you had posters wanting to bench Cam for DA. There will be calls for Grier, and “yAlL aRe onLy CaM faNs” in the preseason.

Even with all that, I’m still cool with Grier being here. This will only make Cam better.

Lol at the Front Office having Grier as their #1 in the draft. Haskins and Murray are #1 and #2 in this class, and will have pretty good careers.

And Grier might as well...

As to their ranking, it depends on who was doing it. If it was Rivera or Hurney, I'd trust it a lot less. Since it sounds to have been heavily influenced by the Turners though, I'm more willing to buy in.

Also worth mentioning...

Coaches don't evaluate players in a vacuum. It's always going to be within the context of their own system. An OC that runs a West Coast Offense and a coach that runs a Coryell are likely to look at the same player and come to very different conclusions.

That's a big reason why when you read generic analysis from draft experts that doesn't take fit into a particular system into account, it can be off base.

The only person who can take Cam’s job from Cam, is Cam, either by poor performance or injury

Wins and Losses are the only things that count in the NFL

Fans like or dislike of Cam does not matter. Win and they will shut up

No doubt he is a polarizing figure for various reasons but again, win, and it won’t matter

’Just win baby’ and he can laugh all the way to a new contract and Canton

i just find the hand wringing and conjectures over Grier to be laughable

after what we saw out of Anderson previously and those kids this past year, with a QB1 coming off shoulder surgery and a contract year coming,  the Panthers would have been beyond stupid and third players are cheap.

The show must go on
