You are correct...only a crazed lunatic would send Josh packing like that with no compensation.

There was a single crazed lunatic at the wheel of the franchise at that point in time --- his name was Jerry Richardson.

Love how ppl pick and choose when they think Jerry was meddling.. Depending on who they want to praise or criticize..

So he was all in on not paying Josh 12 mil for 1 year but was hands off when Marty gave 160 mil worth of contract out in 1 offseason?? Huh??

Amazing what a team can do with a franchise QB.  Thanks Marty

Don't forget a DPOY candidate and 7 to 8 other All pro and pro bowl talent on the roster..

But like I've said .  We will actually get to see how good Gman really is now.. Right Now he gets to rebuild a roster from scratch.. Let's see what happens..

Good lord. People will go to ridiculous lengths to deflect criticism of Dave Gettleman here.

nobody is on here tripping over themselves to create new threads on how great gettleman is

I do.. I remember Gross retirement press conferences having a underline jabs at Gman.. And Olsen and TD negotiation were getting to a point where they weren't going to show up to camp.. So we have a different view of the situation..

Beason nor Norman had character flaws..

Funny Part is the person he put the highest tag on was the player who did have character flaws.. That didn't work out well..

I don’t mean character flaws like how you’re thinking. Not ones that affect their ability to be on the field. Or issues that make them bad people like Hardy. Who signed the tag immediately. Norman’s flaw is his ego. He was all over the media that offseason saying the wrong things when he should’ve not said anything except “I’m letting the process play out” or thinking that an amateur agent could handle his negotiations. It was messy. And I love josh. And everything I’ve posted about him during that time backs that up.

Gross’ quote on DG was something to the effect of “last year I didn’t like you very much (because he was forced to take a pay cut) but I think the organization is in great hands with you”

you could also argue DG was right about TD and Olsen as both fell off rather abruptly because of age and/or injury. But they never badmouthed DG in public that I can remember.

There is a lot of revisionist history among the fan base over DG. Especially considering that the person who fired him was an extremely toxic person who happened to own the entire fuging organization. He did some things extremely well, and he fuged up too. You can say what you want about MK. It was a terrible signing, we desperately needed a left tackle so I get why he did it but it also didn’t cripple us the way we’ve seen signings in the past do.  I never look at one thing and always try to see the broader picture. What I like the most about his time here was that he changed the culture and held players accountable for their play/pay regardless of being a fan favorite. We needed that change desperately and honestly it looks like Marty learned a few things from DG’s stint here.

I think we need a complete overhaul again to get where we want to go but I’ve been cautiously optimistic about this off-season because being the opposite just isn’t really a whole lot of fun.

I have no problem with your opinion.. Other we view a few situations differently but yeah I agree with DG change of culture and getting rid of the country club mentality.. But like you said he wasn't perfect he made mistakes just like all GM's do.. He made some ego choices that didn't work .. He made some just plain handling ppl choices that didn't work.. And sometimes he overestimated his scouting talent.. But all GM do so I acknowledge him being a okay to Avg. Gm..

But we will see how good he really is now that he is building a team from scratch..

What pisses me off is how people mention the success of the 2015 season in defense of Gettleman's time as GM yet simultaneously dump on players like Norman who literally had both hands in that success in several close games.

You want to give the man credit, but shoot daggers at the very players who made that credit possible.

That's not even mentioning players like Olsen, or Davis whom posters like frash have gone out of his way to bash repeatedly over the years.

Honestly I lose respect for posters that continually pie his drivel, because he is anything but pro-player. If anything he has proven to be more like Texans owner Bob McNair who all but considered players "inmates" who should just be happy and shut up.

That's interesting. Facts and history don't support your numbers. I guess he was here in secret during the 2017 season and we just weren't aware that he had gotten fired in July of 2017. Funny how that works.

the thing about norman, and honestly, i don’t rly have anything against him. he’s had a productive career, he cashed in and made elite CB money which was smart on his part. everybody needs to do what’s best for themselves and if he could see he wasn’t going to make as much money playing in carolina as he would somewhere else, there’s nothing wrong with that. i love what he did in 2015. but just because he wants top money and the fans want him here, doesn’t mean the GM needs to either throw all of the money he wants at him or it’s scorched earth.

the other thing about norman trashing gettleman is that this is his MO. trashing anybody he doesn’t like for whatever reason. and in the past he’s done it to:

OBJ

taylor lewan

pro football focus

michael thomas

the fans at fedex field

michael crabtree and amari cooper

the NFL

eric reid

...and i’m sure i didn’t come close to a complete list. he also got into physical scuffs with cam and smitty while he was playing here.

josh has his reasons for whatever public soundbyte or tweet that he wants to @ someone for, but it’s hard to keep up with all of it and i take it with a grain of salt. but whenever he wants to make a timely jab at gettleman, you have all these clowns on the huddle beating themselves off bc a player said something bad about gettleman in public...even though he’s probably ranted against half the league at this point.
