the moment Jake threw his interception in the 1st quarter against Buffalo, i said in the chatroom that it will be a 40 pass game.

almost to a T, every game that we have an illogically high amount of passing, Jake has thrown an early interception. when you look at this phenomenon during each game this season, here's how it lays out.

buffalo - early pick, 44 attempts

tampa bay - no early pick, 17 attempts

washington - no early pick, 25 attempts

dallas - early pick, 33 attempts

atlanta - early pick, 41 attempts

philly - early pick, 17 attempts

the Eagles game is the only outlier.

if you're thinking that it's because we have to pass more once we're too far behind, you're thinking wrong. in most of these we start passing either 7 points behind (which is manageable and not cause for abandoning the run) or ahead (dallas, atlanta).

this is also the root of the Arizona loss in the playoffs. rather than recognize that the passing game isn't going well and focusing on the run (even when it's successful) Fox feels the need to go all out passing.

so why is this? my opinion is that it's because Fox has the overwhelming urge to prove to himself, Jake, the fans, and the media that "Jake's still our guy." this is more important to him than winning. when Jake is in question, Fox would rather lose the game passing than win the game running.

what other explanation could there be? last week our team almost set a franchise rushing record. this week they were playing the worst team against the run in the league. we had plenty of success running, Deangelo had 5.6 yards per carry. yet as soon as Jake threw his first pick, we abandoned the run and threw 40 more times.

watch for this for the rest of the season and see if i'm right.

That's an unbelievably good stat. And, I think you're right, I do believe it may be because Fox is trying to prove that Jake is our man... But, Fox doesn't call the offensive plays. Jeff Davidson does.

i don't know exactly how Carolina does it, but a lot of the time the OC gives the coach 2 plays, a run and a pass, and the HC relays which one he wants to the QB.

I suggested a while back the reason we throw so much, especially when Jake stinks it up, and why we gave Jake the contract extension is cause for some reason Fox has this lovefest for Jake and he wants to prove the fans wrong and that Jake still has it. So yeah I agree with your assessment that Fox cares more about proving the fans wrong than winning. It's something that Fox should be fired for just based on this alone.

very intriguing stat. i actually wondered aloud while watching last Sunday's game whether or not John Fox or Delhomme owe someone in Las Vegas a motherlode of money. There is just no reasoning behind the way the team plays during some games.

If your reasoning behind this stat is true Fox shouldn't be allowed to coach another game.

I would like to see how Davidson thinks without Fox's influence.

I think setting Jake would be the best thing for Jake. Let him clear his mind, get some rest and practice and if he's needed later in the year maybe then he can contribute.

I agree Fox wants to win games, but Helen Keller could see this poo isn't working.

Where some of you guys came up with that kind of accustation? Yes, Fox is still keeping Jake as the starter, but that doesn't mean he care about proving fans wrong than winning. If he did, he wouldn't been here few years ago then. I can understand many are upset with him keeping Jake despite lot of mistakes recently, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about winning. :crazy:

      Sports are a different animal. It's gladiator poo. You wouldn't go out and put the uniform on of the best burger maker in your neighborhood either. So, when we watch these athletes being amazing and giving their all, it is for more than just a check. The guys that are truly driven and love these games, they are doing it for many more reasons than the money. Boiling it down to a simple transactional thing is simplistic, at best. So, yeah, I can understand how Cam can feel jilted when other great Panthers are trotted out and honored by the organization and he isn't. Especially considering he is overwhelmingly the best QB to have ever played for us and literally put this franchise into the national spotlight because of the player he was, the things he accomplished and the personality that he is. So....yeah, I would be upset about that too if I were in his shoes. The money, that the business side. That other poo, that's personal.

      We have different people in place to do that now, but people don't seem to recognize that. I don't much care where they come from but this taking the third best QB top five in the draft over valuation because of the position, yeah we don't need to participate in that.  I build up an imaginary scenario where we can trade out of that position not too far back and get the defensive stud we want while having ammo to trade back into the late 1st if a QB falls. That we want.

      The Panthers really shouldn't be planning to bring back Dalton for a starting salary. It would 100% be a desparation move by the front office. He's only good for 3-5 games at a time. Same with Theilen. He shouldn't factor in the Panthers' plans going forward. If anything, do him a solid and trade him in the off season - if he's still on contract.
