Pick 212: Carolina Panthers select OT Dennis Daley

So I got to watch him against Clemson. Against the #4 and #16 overall draft picks of this draft.  He held his own.  Strong kid. Could see how he might struggle with speed rushers though. Has to get better footwork.  But overall he held his own.  But in the 6th round.  Nice developmental kid.

I would rather see us develop these guys instead of having to call a guy off his couch.

Can't cover opposing wide receivers or tight ends. Theme of the season.

Not to start a crazy back and forth...

but just imagine for a moment, an offense that can eat clock and beat down an opposing D.

AND

a defense that can get off the field on 3rd and medium-long consistently.

We sold out on rush the QB and protect the QB.

Its a philosophy, lets see if these cats can pull it off?

Did Luke, Shaq, Donte retire or something?

Please don't tell me that you think that Luke is good in coverage. Definitely his week spot. The jury is still out on Shaq (sometimes looks great other times not so good) and Donte has shown promise. But all in all, this defense needs major upgrades in the secondary or they will get burned consistently like they did last year. You can't go in to this year with the same personnel and expect different results, not with the quality of QBs in the league, specifically in our division.

Wow really? As great of a LB as he is, Luke struggles in coverage. If you don't see that then I wont even bother commenting further. And by the way, I think Luke is one of the best, if not THE best, LB in the league, I'm just honest in my observations.

Struggled last season? Yeah.

Struggles regularly? No.

I'm undecided on how much to blame Luke for his issues early last season because it sounds like everything under Eric Washington was an unholy mess. That, plus Dontari Poe stank and Kawann Short wasn't as good as usual.

Not sure what to expect this season though. Luke is a prototype 4-3 middle linebacker. What will he look like in a 3-4? Unknown.
