To all of you who are complaining about not addressing the safety position........

No one wants to complain until Brees and Ryan rip our secondary apart

Now this poster understands why I made my original post. Kudos to you for "getting it". As soon as Brees throws for 500 yards and 6 TDs the Huddle will crash wondering where are safeties and cornerbacks are and "why didn't we draft secondary help?" and "our secondary sucks" etc. The whole concept seems pretty simple to me, but other posters state that I don't make any sense. LOL!

Having to trade up for a LT cost us our S.  We had to do it.

I like the OL help, it looks like we got good value with our 2nd pick, but we could have got a potential starter at safety in the 3rd. But safeties are not valued and don't matter, according to some posters. The same posters that will bitch when we finish 7-9 again because our pass defense can't stop anybody.

Damn man......stop it! You are making too much sense!!

what makes sense:   getting a vet saftey off the waiver wire

what doesnt make sense: expecting a 3rd round or later rookie to just jump in, start right away, and not suck balls

It would be hard to suck balls harder than we did last year. But you're right, we needed a backup QB worse.

We had Coleman and Harper. Before that we had Mitchell and Mikel.

Teams that won the SBs recently had guys like Thomas, Chancellor, Ward, Stewart, Jenkins and even Patriots had Chung, Harmon and Mccourty.

So.....you are saying that successful teams in the past have had very good to all-pro safeties? You must watch football and understand the importance of secondary help. Some posters don't seem to understand that our DBs play 10 yards off the line of scrimmage because our coaching staff don't trust our safeties to be able to cover opposing WRs once they break free of press man coverage. I am thankful that at least someone sees what I see on the field. Of course pass rush is very important, but when the QB can get rid of the ball as soon as it is snapped the rush doesn't even have time to get in the backfield. The WRs are wide open because of the 10 yd cushion, and there is a 10 yd cushion because our safeties can't be relied on to cover. Does that make sense?

Even David Newton (who I don't put much stock in, but he does "cover" the Panthers) tweeted that the Panthers addressed every need EXCEPT safety. Sure, we may have not found an immediate starter in the 3rd, but then again we might have. They could have at least tried to address the need. Instead, they draft a BU QB. And if there's such great value in the open market, why was 20+ DBs/safeties drafted in rounds 2 and 3?

How many f-ing times have we lost a big game to division rivals where we had a safety that had no coverage skills covering an under thrown pass.  Our safety's are always out of position for deep throws.  By definition they are supposed to be the last line of defense yet ours keep getting beat.  I wanted Rivera and Marty gone 5 of the years they have been together.  This year will be 6.

We also don’t have a nickel CB. Gaulden will get roasted as bad as Captain. He’s the least athletic DB in last year’s draft and we think he’ll hang with the quick slot WRs? We started the draft with FS and nickel as probably the biggest actual holes maybe aside from LG and right now we still sort of have holes at all 3. Williams May slide in to LG, but what if Little really isn’t ready (quite possible)? Van Roten, Gaulden and Colin Jones are still starters right now.

Also, we have multiple backups to Cam now but our offensive cogs (CMC, Samuel and Moore) have no one behind them that’s even close.

Love Burns and Miller, but we missed out on a lot.

Do you not have any faith in Cockrell? I never see anyone even mention him as a possibility with all the talks about needing a nickelback...but he’s no slouch. I actually think he could play on the outside opposite Bradberry, and move Jackson to nickelback.
