Mcshay and the guys on the sportcentermock draft special also said his versatility he could play a 4-3 OLB in a joker role like Anthony Barr in Minnesota

Burns is a jigsaw puzzle with elite athleticism and pass rush ability.. If you want to do a multiple front hybrid scheme defense.. (Which is what we are doing) He is the perfect piece to have..

Exactly, your gonna see Rivera and his defensive mind do some interesting things with Burns. Lined up in a 3 point stances but playing olb in 3-4, playing olb in 4-3 looks, at end in 4-3 looks. Regular 3-4 olb rush looks... Ect.

Lamar had more than one knee surgery before he got here back when knee surgery was still hard.

He excelled in our 3-4 I think he was a 4-3 Sam in Houston playing out of position.

Knowing this why would you hope our 1st round pick will be like him??

Injury prone and only 3 years of production..

#facts.

The ''too small'' talk needs to stop, the man is 20, he will add weight over time. With consideration to his rookie year we're looking at high DPR (designated pass rusher) usage early and often, and should prove adequate vs the run as he develops.

This was an excellent pick as the ''primary'' skill set that we needed is pass rushing ability, he has that and has the potential / athleticism to be much more than what he is already.

  • Von Miller - 6'3 / 250
  • Brian Burns - 6'5 / 250
  • Mario Addison - 6'3 / 260
  • TJ Watt - 6'4 / 252
  • Bruce Irvin - 6'3 / 250

You look at what Von Miller does in the pass / run game, you can't help but be excited as Burns is bigger than Miller, if you like TJ Watt's game in Pittsburgh and saw his effectiveness versus us think of that when you're trying to question his size.

If you look at Bruce Irvin who we just added and his career as a EDGE defender / pass rusher and what he has done over his career, you have to like what Burns can be with these high end of guys of similar to equal stature.

The NFL is changing and people need to let go of the late 90's and early 2000's stereo-types on ''what the proto-type is'' teams play Nickel defense 60(+)% of the time, all this 43, and 34 talk is great for those base looks, but more often than not we're looking at smaller personnel packages. Defending the run is still a must, but generating pressure, and sacks is an absolute must with the passing era that we are in.

Guys need to be able to get there, quickly, and with the infusion of quarterback mobility you need pass rushers who can also close that gap on the quarterback as well. He will gain weight, and get stronger, playing 250-255 ish seems very reasonable as eventually he'll assume Addison's role who also started in the 250's but put on weight over his time here, for those that don't remember Addison was DPR for us for a while behind (Hardy / Johnson) and also was lighter than the 260 playing weight he carries now.

It's just a scary pick. 30% prow bowler 70% bust IMO.

With his linage, his athleticism, his skill traits, his desire. I mean he did gain 15 ilbs for the combine and has already hired a full time nutritionist.

With all of the above calling him a 70% bust is pretty damn ridiculous. Not to mention his tape which is good.

Because when Lamar was here in three years he was the most disruptive and violent pass rusher we have ever had.

1.Lamar

2.Greene

3.Peppers

4.Hardy

5.Johnson

Are you fuging drunk or did you have a crack breakfast?? This is beyond stupid.  Goodluck with that..

Anyone who has watched the Vikings (Barr), or Seattle (Irvin in his prime) during the ''LOB'' era should be VERY excited about this addition. Anyone getting caught up on weight / power / setting the edge need to remember in 4-3 sets he and Irivin will likely rotate that ''joker'' position and be asked to cover (which he showed excellent ability) as well as rush from a two point stance and not as the end. In the 3-4 set's he'll still be playing off the shoulder of a defensive end, then when you factor in DPR downs he's shown, if you do any research, and film breakdowns (no not YT highlights) but the sources out there that break prospects down, he has an inside & out pass rush repertoire it's not all speed.

You guys need to consider scheme, alignment, coaching, and personnel packages as well. I know a lot of you are butt hurt over not taking a Tackle, or Will Grier at #16 but the lack of Huddle competent football IQ this time of year is STAGGERING.

I get where you're going with this, but that comparison is kind of a reach.

Antonio Brown and Curtis Samuel have similar physical characteristics too but they're nowhere near equivalent in talent.

Nobody is saying he's Von, premise of this was comparing size since some people are concerned that Burns can't be an effective NFL pass rusher based on his build which is absurd.

Care to expound on that?

It's about not only sacks but pressure and hits.

Plus there were times he hit the guy so hard he didn't get up.

Wasn't Lamar the guy that broke Michael Irving's collarbone in the 96 playoff game?

Peppers had more total sacks but in all the years I can't remember him knocking the absolute dog schit out of anyone. Peppers is a soft hug them down tackler.

Thomas Davis is our best all time hitter.

I like knocking people out cleanly. I like defenders that knock people out.

This will be quick.

1. You have Lamar lathon over 2 HOF..  That means your opinion has Crack influences..

2. All  about pressure huh.. So why isn't Kris Jenkins or KK on this list 2 all pro interior pass rusher who got alot of pressures on their stat sheet..

3. Mike Rucker not being on your list shows me you don't know poo.

4.Dante Weasley knock out a few players he must be the best panthers DB ever right??

DONE!!

They will be in the Nickle 60% of the time no matter what front they use because this is a passing league now.. And we just drafted one of the top 5 pass rushers in this draft..

Think about it..

So Burns is DE in the nickel with 4 DL and 2 LBs?

Very few who are complaining are doing so *IF* our base defense is a 3-4.

Von Miller would have the same SEVERE drawback if he was tasked to play DE in a 4-3.

So will we be playing 3-4 as our base defense (i.e. more than 80% of the time)?

Or will Burns be tasked to play out of position and severely undersized in a base 4-3 with a sprinkling of 3-4?

And if we’re moving to a base 3-4, where are all those 300+ lb 3-4 DEs we’re gonna need? KK Short would be one.... who else?

And, again, if we’re moving to a base 3-4, what is gonna be done with all of our 270-280 lb 4-3 DEs?  Play them undersized and out of position at 3-4 DE? Or transition them to 3-4 OLB which most will have neither the nimbleness or speed to play?

all of this is what I'm concerned about.
