Yeah in space. Guess what unless I'm an idiot OC there will be no space. I'll put a road grader on him and squash him.

Go study 3-4 defenses and OLB in them

Then come back and atleast try to form a better argument

If he can do to the NFCS what Miller did to Cam in the SB I’ll be happy

I would, too, but Shula is not int he NFCS anymore and everybody who is will probably make adjustments to at least try and slow him down or neutralize him.

I thought they would pick Sweat when he was available, but there are reasons people who are a lot smarter and dedicate a lot more of their time looking at potential players than I do let Sweat fall to 26.  It was not all the questionable physical issue.

We needed somebody on the edge and we got somebody that most talking heads are putting in the B to B+ range for the pick.  Like all draft picks and FA signings for that matter, we can come up with pluses and minuses forever but none of that means anything until the season starts.

The one area I do have faith in with Rivera is his ability to run a defense.  Whether we run a hybrid scheme, switch to predominately 3-4, or stay almost completely 4-3 is probably yet to be determined.  They know what they intend to do, but until people start playing together, I suspect their intentions get that famous disclaimer "all other things being equal."  At some point you bend the scheme to fit what you have to work with, or you find other employment.

You're assuming we are going base 3-4.

I'm assuming we go base 4-3 and try and put him at 5 technique on 1st and 2nd down.

My point has been you don't waste a 16 on a specialist that only gets to impact about 25% of snaps.

They will be in the Nickle 60% of the time no matter what front they use because this is a passing league now.. And we just drafted one of the top 5 pass rushers in this draft..

Think about it..

Stop and go?

Look man that running around and dodging people is ok in College but not in the NFL.

Especially against the run.

If I was an opposing OC I run over this guy for 6 yards a carry and we never get to pass rush.

You can't run around a run block. The blocker will just squat on you and the back will cut off his ass. You have to fight across the face of a run blocker and this twig can't do it. I haven't seen one clip of him with a great jab step/punch and fighting across the face.

He's a liability.

God I hope I'm wrong but I think he'll be worse than Jason Peter's and Everette Brown.

The arguments in this thread against him for the most part are good awful horrible, not knowing a lick of football knowledge type of horrible. He has football moves, he has hand moves, he has pass rush moves. Last season at DE, previous seasons at OLB, natural position is 3-4 OLB. His skill traits and athleticism are elite level.

Plus He's got his brother to help him, in addition to the Panthers staff..ect.

Calm down with the ridiculous he's a power CB and that type of B.S analysis

He'll play 5 tech and olb in 3-4 and 4-3 looks. The defense is going to be interesting and Burns is the first piece to it.

Also

Mcshay and the guys on the sportcentermock draft special also said his versatility he could play a 4-3 OLB in a joker role like Anthony Barr in Minnesota

    • Yeah my crazy theory is Canales, Morgan, and Tillis watched the film and read the locker room.  They saw a team giving up on a player and frustrated with his production.  Seems like a pretty easy decision from there...
    • We'll probably still lose, but I believe we'll be more competitive. I don't think signing another vet QB is wise considering we already have one. I think we should trade for a young QB sitting on the bench. I'm bias, but I would like for us to consider Rattler. Carr is doing very well with the Saints so he may be their starter for a while, so they may be more willing to trade Rattler. I'm not too impressed with the QB draft class for next year. I would rather trade back our 1st round pick for more picks and go BPA. Continue with the rebuilding process, and if Rattler or whoever doesn't cut it, then hopefully Manning will be the guy in 2026. And Tepper has to back off with any decision making.
    • I said in another thread, I can’t find a glaring liability on offense. If Dalton can drop some 25+ yard dimes, we have some dudes that can make hay. Picks be damned. I’ll take a 2 or 3 pick day for 35 points on the board. We just need something. A spark. Anything.  We won’t be good, but it has potential to be fun to watch, and the tone in the stadium… hope.
