Oh, let's cry about releasing Steve Smith and drafting Vernon Butler instead of taking a very realistic scenario of not trading a 1st for Everette Brown and getting Thomas, Sanders and Griffen since we drafted 3 WRs in 2010.

I'm thinking that maybe we would have gotten a SB win in 2015 and heck, maybe 2013 as well. If you are going to go back in time, let's pick the catastrophic Brown trade and see it for the true impact it had.

understanding that these were worse moves than anything written in the OP would require the careful use of the reality stone. we at the huddle don’t rly have a good grasp of how that one works though, since we’re still working hard to imagine a reality where marty hurney is a good GM...

Not signing Norman had a domino affect. Suddenly we had a gaping hole in our defense, Gettleman panicked and had a historically shitty draft with Bradberry being the only serviceable player only 3 years later.

Then we mostly focused on offense high in the 2017 and 2018 drafts. So is it really surprising  our defense was slow and old last season?

Josh Norman has probably been laughing at our secondary problems for 3 years strait. 

We were going to have a big hole in our defense any way losing Harper, Tillman, and one or two others, but Gettleman made it worse.  I remember our pass defense against Atlanta in 2016 being one of the worse I have ever seen.

I honestly don't know if this would've made any difference, but I know for damn sure doing this wouldn't have hurt. The number one thing I'd change with a time machine is not playing our franchise QB down the stretch of a wasted season with a known torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. That was mind numbingly idiotic. I don't care if he wanted to keep playing. He's a helluva competitor and I doubt he'd ever want to sit unless he was wheelchair bound, but it's not the player's decision. If you don't have a coaching staff with the balls to tell the franchise QB that they're pulling the plug on his season for his own well being and the well being of the franchise as a whole, then you have an even bigger problem at hand.

If I am changing things, I go back in time and use our 5th round draft pick from 2000 or 2001 (or whenever it was) to draft some qb that played at Michigan and then went on to a pretty decent NFL career.

Julio could've named his yardage total in that game. Over and over and over again he was streaking wide ass open down the field completely uncovered.

Two things make the Butler bust especially painful. One, DT was a position of huge strength for us at the time and two, the player we should've drafted there is in N.O. and one of the best WRs in the NFL.

But, to be completely honest, if I was makign that pick it would've been Emmanuel Ogbah and he's not exactly setting the world on fire either. Better than Butler, but definitely a big disappointment.

i know this place isn’t used to the idea of first round picks not working out, but much more idiotic moves have been made here that didn’t involve first round picks at all and set the team back.

The Butler draft overall set us back 2-3 years.  DG pretended he was all about BPA then after Butler freaked out and reached for meh CBs.  Lol Giants
