Tony Pauline: Panthers infatuated with Will Grier, will consider him at #47

If the Panthers really like Grier that much, it isn't a secret. In that regard, it feels like a smokescreen. Make there is a 2nd round Patrick Mahommes out there.

I acknowledge the possibility, but I've seen enough chatter from people with inside connections to believe it's not a smokescreen. They genuinely like Will Grier.

Mind you, doesn't mean they'll draft him.

Baker was the number 1 pick in the draft. Finding Baker in the second is highly unlikely. These QBs have been vetted over and over since grade school. The ones with baker upside just don’t make it out of round one. You know who is in the second? Andy dalton, kap, guys with serious defects to there game that causes them to slide.

Does anyone really think that Grier would be any better as a rookie than Allen? Really?

If Cam goes down again, the season is tanked anyway and we're looking for a QB in the 1st next year no matter what.

Yes. Will Grier will be the best quarterback out of this draft. If we have a chance to get him and pass, we'll regret it for a long time.

Right again, Mr. Scot! We should all just stop posting on here, since we're all fans and all of this is meaningless.

I have no problem acknowledging that anything can happen, including things that I don't want to happen. That's just reality.

So here's my question: If the Panthers do take Grier in the second - or even by trading up to the last part of the first -what are you going to do?

Ya gonna bail on 'em because they didn't do what you thought they should do or are you gonna hope they were right and you were wrong?

NE taking Grier at #32 would please me greatly.

As mentioned already though, if Hurney and Rivera really want him, they could trade up to get in front of New England.

On the flip side, the Patriots being right about him and his developing into a worthy successor for Brady isn't exactly a positive for us either.

I won't acknowledge either of those scenarios until they actually happen because they're too ridiculous to wrap my head around.

That said, it wouldn't be the first time the Panthers didn't do what I wanted them to do, and I'll forever bleed black & blue.

Based on what some of the insiders are saying, those scenarios might not be as ridiculous as you think.

Again, I don't know what's going to happen, but I acknowledge there are a lot of things that could happen. This is one of them.

All the QBs who've been drafted to be the successor and gone on elsewhere sure have turned out amazing...

Bold statements, Mr. Scot. You just stepped right on out on that limb. I admire your bravery.

Has New England really drafted a potential successor other than Jimmy Garoppolo (who I call an incomplete at this point)?

I'd say most of their draftees have been genuine backups that they've used to fleece other teams out of draft picks.

(which, for the record, isn't a bad practice)
