FYI: Steve Smith was just speaking on WFNZ. Roman Harper asked him specifically for his thoughts about Will Grier. Smitty said if you have a chance to get a good young quarterback like Grier later than the first round, you take him.

“Good” “young” quarterback”

there are plenty of those after the first round. There will be plenty after the second, third, fourth, etc. as well. It’s a matter of hitting on one...something Hurney was never capable of until Cam was giftwrapped to him.

To be clear, he was speaking specifically of Grier.

Said some stuff afterward that was couched in a complex analogy, but left me with the impression he has some doubt about Newton's health.

You really like Grier huh.. because you have be leaning heavy on the take Grier second round train. Even to the point to say he is better than Rosen(he’s not). Question is, is he so much better than Rosen and a second rounder starter, because if the price for both is accurate I couldn’t see this being a better investment at all. You draft Grier and you're virtually assuring yourself you don't grab a QB out of what's supposed to be a very strong class next year.

You can find QBs from any round and even undrafted, but you have to ask yourself what's the most likely outcome. Playoff quarterbacks tend to come from Round 1. It's been borne out again and again. Brady is the very definition of an outlier. Russell Wilson? He lit up the Senior Bow and was named the game's MVP.  Grier did not impress at the Senior Bowl.

None of the draft analysts I could find (Kiper, Jeremiah, Davis, McShay, etc.) have him rated highly . USA Today's Doug Farrar says that Grier "make me nervous" and talks about the "elongated delivery" and "footwork all over the place."

I get he's a local kid. I hope he does well, but so far everything I've seen and read make me wonder.

Why did he struggle in the Senior Bowl? Why isn't he rated higher?

I like will Grier a lot, but I'm not predicting the Panthers will draft him. I would be happy if they did but also will be okay if they don't.

I wouldn't trade for Rosen regardless of whether Grier was in the discussion or not.

Disagree: Taking a quarterback this year doesn't prevent you from taking one next year at all.

SI"s Peter King just published a piece on him. Twitter won't embed fun mobile.

Our series concludes with our three experts—veteran front-office scout Joey Clinkscales, former head coach and offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and long-time quarterback Bruce Gradkowski—scouting West Virginia's Will Grier

@theMMQB: Gradkowski: "Rex Grossman without the arm strength"
Clinkscales: "There are enough concerns on tape to give me pause"
Haley: "Guys who command the field the way he does usually have a chance"

Our QB expert panel weighs in on West Virginia's Will Grier

Why in the hell does a team draft him in first rd last year and then want to draft another first pick this year. I watched him he is terrible, and was terrible in college.

Because it's a stupid organization.. They also hired a coach and fired him a year later. .  Since Arians left they aren't poo.  Don't blame the rookie you didn't give poo to..
