Tony Pauline: Panthers infatuated with Will Grier, will consider him at #47

Will Grier/QB/West Virginia: In all honesty, I’m late to the party on Grier despite listing him as a Riser in week five. I was informed that he was rising up draft boards weeks ago and struggled to believe it, but as they say, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. So where could Grier land? As early as the late part of Round 1 and no later than the middle portion of the second frame. Who could draft the Mountaineers quarterback? The New England Patriots have shown a ton of interest in Grier and could draft him as the first round closes out. The New York Giants also like Grier, and he could be their fallback plan if they don’t take a signal caller in Round 1. The Carolina Panthers also have an infatuation with Grier and will consider him in the second round. As we mentioned last week during The Draft Analysts podcast, Carolina is looking to add a quarterback during the second day of the draft.

I don't see why we would take a QB in round 2. Unless the FO have no faith in Cam returning to his old self. Otherwise this would be a wasted pick. If Cam is done they better be certain Grier can be that franchise QB, otherwise we will be looking for another QB in round 1 next year.

You don't waste a 2nd round pick without knowing the future of Cam. I don't buy we are seriously thinking about picking him in round 2.

Imagine taking a QB in the second with all the holes on the team. Grier is no better than what Allen would be. All this is stupid

Please no, if cam is done either grab a guy in the first or hold off until next year. 

But we all know cam isn’t done, I think he comes back stronger and better, probably one of most serious I’ve seen a pro athlete act after a big injury to rehab and heal.

Backup quarterback is one of those holes. And given that they're not absolutely certain Newton can finish a full season, it's reasonable to give it a hard look.

As to Allen, please 

The guy played one game which was basically under preseason conditions. The only thing he earned was the right to compete for a job. It's not even absolutely guaranteed he'll even make the team.
