Our entire draft direction is contingent on Moton.

So you’re saying every in game decision, depth chart, roster decision is completely infallible and how dare I as a mere fan question any decision or choice Ron makes? That’s a very black and white view of things. “You’re either with us or against us”. My bad man...Coach Rivera and staff make the right call...every time...it’s just the stupid players not capitalizing on opportunities or executing. I never said I thought Ron was a horrible coach or we should fire him, or that being a head coach was an easy job. I saw an interview with him where he said he did some self scouting after the season and saw things that he needed to correct. How come he can say that but if I do I have uninformed opinions from watching every game for the past 20+ years? Are you at practice everyday? Don’t get the hostility.

Norv made better in game adjustments this year than Shula ever did, I think it was obvious to everyone that change was an upgrade. The team created an analytics team and hired a coach specifically to help with clock management...and Ron is staying in charge of the defense now. Why’d they make those changes if everything they do is correct and beyond question?

I love how any type of common sense response get characterized by overblown exaggerations by posters who pass themselves off as experts.. The point is if you aren't in the film room, at practice and see what goes on beyond the scenes how do you know who or what influences their decisions . Then even though you watch the game, do you know what is being called and what every player does on every play. Of course the staff makes mistakes, they are human. But the idea that the staff don't know talent or can't pick good depth players and develop them is beyond uninformed and ridiculous.

The point is no one said that Ron is perfect but to say he doesn't know anything about depth, can't evaluate talent , make adjustments or game day decisions is plain overblown and ignorant. You ignore the 50 correct decisions and focus on the one bad one.  Why are we making changes? To do better. It doesn't mean what we did previously was bad or wrong, it just didn't get us the result we wanted.

Why is everyone so black and white or right or wrong when life rarely works out that way.

We did get out of Kalils contract after two years. What are you talking about. What escape?

Matt Kalil was starting at LT at the beginning of last year because he cost 20M+ to cut and they had to pray he would play average.

Please explain how this false statement means anything towards Motons ability to play LT?

I can tell you this--the first contract had an escape clause after 2 years,  then it was redone. We could have walked away with $0 owed.  Wish I could find the terms--maybe someone can shed more light than I can.

I do not get what you mean by false statement?  Let's take a look at the statement about the reason they played Kalil--  Are you saying there was no competition for the job because he had a big contract?  Nobody getting a look in camp?  Preseason?   Job was his and they prayed?  Is that your premise?  I am just wondering how you know that.   I don't think coaches care about salary--play your best players--Kalil's contract is not connected to Ron's contract.

The false statement that you just made again. This has been discussed, and dismissed many times on here. Many others will tell you the same thing. You can’t find the terms because they never existed. He was guaranteed 25M. He was getting 25M. Nothing done after the original contract signing changed any amount of money we paid him.

I don’t care about the rest of your rant. Just this. And if you can tell me this, how about you show me exactly how this fantasy of yours happened.

You’re the one overblowing things man...even the post of mine you quoted said “SOME” of the depth chart moves. Show one post where I’ve ever called myself an expert.  I never condemned every decision Ron or the staff has made. I think he’s a great defensive coach and it’s a good thing he’s more hands on with the defense now.

The team would not just hire a coach specifically to aid with clock management if they didn’t look back over games and realize it was a  problem.

Tepper would not have created an analytics department if he didn’t think the team could use some help there. They’re self diagnosing and that’s a good thing

show me one post I’ve declared myself an expert? I’ve discussed other’s  points of view with MY opinion. It’s a forum...that’s the whole point right?

You’re claiming common sense but you’re overblowing a lot of things yourself, and having a huge, unnecessary attitude about it to boot. Did you have an oops I crapped my pants moment or what? That’ll piss on anyone’s parade but have a beer, smoke a bowl, sip some chamomile tea, jerk off or something Adolf cause the whole Mein fuhrer thing is overboard

I know this has been discussed before.  But with the draft right around the corner I think it’s fitting to have this discussion again.

Does our front office view Moton as a competent/ elite LT?

If we do see him at left tackle it opens up this draft completely to selecting the BPA for out multiple needs.  Edge, Safety, DL, CB.

We have looked at a bunch of RT this draft season. And only Dillard and Little at LT.

My hope is that Moton can be a competent LT.  Because I don’t like any of the LT’s this year at 16.  If he can play LT then we can definitely go Edge in the 1st. If they are gone, go Cody Ford. He is a hell of a lot safer than Dillard or Little.  If we go LT in first we have to get an Edge.  So getting one of the quality Safeties in the second round may be out of the question.

What say you?

I say you're wrong.

Moton has already proven he's at least competent at LT in the 2018 season.

The "entire draft direction" in 2019 comes down to the guy that it has always come down to.

Ron Rivera.

NOT very encouraging, I know.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
