It's easy to say I told you so on guys who fail with terrific combine numbers,It's no exact science it happens... What about the College Hall of Famers and stat kings that people say are just"football players" Tim The Golden Calf of Bristol, Matt Linehart, Danny Wurffel you can go on and on.

I don't think anyone said college stats alone is what make a football player

You're creating that argument

naming players that plenty  people didn't like during the draft process

People’s whole argument about Gary is production he didn’t produce to go along with his numbers. If he had the production he would be a number 1 pick. So to those people I’m pointing out guys who were good football players but didn’t have the athletic tools to succeed at the next level.

Production is the only argument you can have against Gary. So what else could you mean?

Again you seem confused an argument for Garys lack of production is not a thumbs up for college players with great numbers

I could dislike Gary and Nick Bosa for example

A guy that is the number one recruit and test great at the combine is expected to show it on the field

RUMOR: Rashan Gary's stock is dropping

Rashan Gary has been billed throughout the draft process as someone who has untapped potential and wasn't developed well at Michigan. That might be true, but NFL teams are approaching Gary with caution as the draft nears.

Two reasons are being cited for his fall:

1. Injury issues. Gary fought through shoulder issues throughout his last season at Michigan, and scouts who have watched Gary closely believe he has medical concerns.

2. Teams are afraid of betting on a player with potential who didn't produce stats. At 6'4" and 277 pounds, Gary is an elite athlete, but he notched only 3.5 sacks in 2018 and just 9.5 in his three years as a Wolverine.

If you want to believe a predraft rumor, this is one to trust. Gary is being seen as a selection in the teens and not a top-10 pick.

I just watched his whole game against OSU.  Played 3-4 DE the whole game. He played well and had a bunch of tackles.  But again no sacks.  I will say this.  His lack of production is not due to not hustling.  He hustled all over the place.

Not sure how I feel about him.

I will say this.  If we are looking at him at 16 he could play DE of both 4-3 and 3-4(passing downs).

I will pose this question.  Why is it ok for Ed Oliver to play NT and not have very good stats and that be OK?  Oliver seems to get a pass on his stats but Gary does not.

Not sure Gary would be my first choice but not sure I am dead against it either. Might be good at DE.  But there will be a learning curve that that other Edge guys don’t have to go through.

That was one of the biggest reasons I warmed up, he is the most versatile defensive player in the draft. OLB, 3-4 end, 3tech etc. With not knowing what the Panthers want in this hybrid system, at least Gary will have a fit.

But that works the other way as well... if we do plan to do more 3-4 stuff he has more experience their than most other guys. That versatility is part of what makes him ideal.

I tried to start a thread about this but it wound up in another subsection and I can't figure out how to delete the thread and repost in news and talk.

Do we take a flyer on him in the 3rd if he falls that far?

I'm not sure of Hurney and Rivera are in a spot where they can afford to take fliers on guys who probably need to sit a year to get healthy. It's generally teams with entrenched front offices that make those types of picks.
