Evan Silva and Josh Norris Panthers draft analysis

It's fairly common sense, I'm no NFL scout, but if you follow what the team is doing it's easy to get an idea at least of what the team may be thinking in order to make a more educated guess; especially considering the free agency OL acquisitions (Paradis, and bringing Williams back). Thus securing the TWO places we stood to lose a starter C & G.

After Moton's season I think anyone who's paid attention can see his athleticism transitioning to LT, because he was the 1st one in at that position when Kalil when down and played well, and even continued that at RT, when Clark off his couch only played LT.

Bearing that in mind if you look at our ''edge'' options behind Addison / Irvin there is no proven talent, and guys like Obada, and even Haynes are already 25+. So it makes since to go with the young potential stud rusher with elite athleticism & PRODUCTION early if available.

Beyond that the ONLY edge defender under contract for 2020 is Haynes a 4th rounder from last season. On the offensive line - Moton, Larsen, Paradis, Truner are all under contract for this coming season and the one after. So the offensive line depth / contract wise is in a better place, but I still expect it to receive a great deal of attention early in the draft.

Sweat / Burns are the tier 1 options (when you look at their visits aside from Ferrell they are the only Day 1 pass rushers)

When you look at ALL of the OL we've met with / visited / worked out etc, they are playing the long game with that position, outside of a crazy run on edge players I think it's pretty clear we're targeting OL and also Safety depth based on those visits on Day 2.

Maybe we do.

Bring the best you can in Free Agency but set up for BPA for the draft. Just like Kuechly when we had Beason—- a lot of people grumbled—- we needed someone else more.

BPA

THREE linebacker positions, Luke was still a starter on the weak-side til Beason got hurt. We're not benching $6M, if you think that then hey all the power to you.

There is no we. It’s not our money— And $6 million is what a backup gets paid unless you aren’t keeping up with current events. Hell, Torrey gets $5m.

Also, Hurney is adamant like many others that you draft BPA and only choose the need of 2 players are rated the same.

those ratings are up to Hurney and the scouts,.. not you or me.

so if he Drafts Dillard and Moton goes right,.. or if Jonah and he goes right, or Ford and he goes Right,..

Darryl becomes a backup, gone next year anyway.

Savy?

We will see what Hurney does if that situation really happens. Personally the article made sense. Dillard being a true left tackle allows Moton on the right with injury bug Darryl being on backup for the year.

Personally I don’t think Hurney chooses Dillard over Sweat, but never discount the important of protecting Cam.

we will see what happens. I’m good either way actually

You don't pay a back up $6M in free agency.

Moton / (Rookie / GVR) / Paradis / Turner / WIlliams

I think (and the article implies) that Moton and Dillard would compete for LT. The loser would compete with Williams for RT. The loser of that would compete with Nan Roten and Larsen for LG.

If we go this route, our line would likely be:  Moton / Dillard / Paradis / Turner / Williams  or   Dillard / Williams / Paradis / Turner / Moton.

I think Ford is a great contingency plan.

If Sweat or Burns are there, I believe one of them will be the pick.

If the QBs do not go early (especially if the Giants do not take one), the result will likely be that Sweat, Burns, and probably Ferrell are all gone.  If that is the case, and Lock or Haskins is still on the board, our spot is ideal for someone that really needs a QB (like Oakland) to jump the Giants.

An Oakland trade might look like this...We give them 16 and 47, they give us 24, 35, and 140.  Then we can grab G/T Ford at 24, someone like Zack Allen at 35 who can play in a 3-4 or 4-3,  and use 77 and 115 to move up and grab Savage or Adderley to play FS in the late 2nd/Early third.  We'll still have our comp 3rd to grab Grier if he's still there or someone like Christian Miller at OLB.  Then use 140, 154, 187 to grab a DT, G, and QB to develop if we miss on Grier (maybe Thorson or Jackson).   That would cover a lot of our needs.

Hell no. If they want a quarterback they give us 24, 35, and 140 and we give them the 16 pick and Drew Lock.

Take everything you can... give nothing back. Savy?

Based on Dillard playing NFL draftable players in the Senior Bowl instead of PAC 12 DL Hurney isn’t thinking about protecting Cam, he’s drafting someone like Matt Kalil. Dillard may improve but he’ll be awful year 1 and probably year 2.

I’m not saying I disagree with you. What I’ve said is everyone here says like they know what Hurneys BPA board looks like, and acts like whoever their pick is must be the truth or Hurney is an idiot.

Maybe his board agrees with you and maybe it says Dillard is the highest BPA out of everyone’s picks at 16.

Theres morning we can do and we have no say in the matter. We also don’t have the luxury of being professional scouts in person making these judgements— we just watch tape

I would not be a fan of this. You got to take Sweat if he's there. We have Moton and Williams at tackle, I'm not sure why the national guys don't get that.

Only because Carolina is an afterthought.

Quick- what was the Panthers heel last year?  O-line? Who'd they have?  Matt Kalil?? Oh dear God get them a T!

Some of those guys could also be early (move up) to mid 2nd like Little and Ford. If the top OTs go early then we should get one of the edge guys we want. If they don’t go early, we may still get an edge guy and some of the top 5 guys could drop. Think Cam Robinson being a top 5 pick and many mocked to us at 8 and he went 40th I think.

Agree on Little but

Ford (no way he goes second)

Williams

Risner (maybe into the second)

Taylor

Dillard

Are going first round, i say four at least. Jmo.

If Hurndog could make them agree to that, I'm all for it. A more reasonable trade would be 16 and 47 for 24 and 27. We could still lock down a top tier DE or OT, and have our pick at FS.  Both with a 5th year option.

Bundling 100 and 115 could still move us up to the mid 80's where we could grab a second tier DE or a OT like Tytus Howard. Hell, Greir should be still there in the mid 80's.

yep- I was using the trade value chart to move 16 and 47 for 24, 35, and 140.  If we get 24 and 27 for 16, I think it becomes a no-brainer, especially if the DEs that might fall to us (Sweat, Burns, Ferrell) are all gone.  We could add two solid OL and DL talents on 5-year contracts and still have 47 for a free safety - hell yes.

The trade calculator I used had 16 and 47 for 24 and 27 as a pretty even trade. We could play hardball and have them throw in 140, or at least one of their 7th round picks, as well, but I like the idea of 2 first rounders.
