Panthers hiring a head of football research

Beichick did this 19 years ago, with no fanfare.

He was adamant in lobbying Ernie Adams to leave Wall Street to run NE’s analytics/film.

Before his stock broker days, Adams as an assistant with NYG, and was actually the one who first recommended Belichick to Ray Perkins. Those two have been collaborating for 35+ years. It’s a remarkable partnership.

I'd say it's worked out for them pretty well.

The Panthers have been using analytics for years (Riverboat Ron) going to the Sloan Conference, wearing gps, etc.  This is either a replacement position or formalization of the separate areas . Baseball has adopted  SABERmetrics and basketball has APBRmetrics and these decision-making methods have drastically changed how these games are played.  Basketball is now played beyond the arc and baseball is HRs, KOs, no stealing, no sac.  Get ready for this to happen in football.  Pro Football Focus rates CBs as most valuable, Sloan gave the Raiders best move of the year for trading Mack for draft picks vs paying 23 million.  Neither of these would be considered true by traditionalists.  Who knows what the future will look like, but it won’t be your father’s NFL

I thought this was already in place.  So we are giving Hurney free will to pick whatever position transfer player he wants??  SMH. Tepper  should have pulled the reigns on this before now.

Better not see another Gualden with Harrison still on the board. SMH.

Hurney is the GM you know. I'm not sure this analytics team is there to be a check on the GM regardless of how it's trying to be spun.

This is the owner investing in new tools for whoever his GM is.

With the early success of Moore, Jackson, and Thomas I'm not going to beat Hurney up too bad over Gaulden. I didn't like the pick and early returns don't look promising, but if you hit on 3 of your top 4 picks year in and year our you're gonna be just fine.

Herniay 2.0 must repeat that this year, even get slightly better results. The greatest part of the draft is late 1st to 3rd. Paired with his money in bank 1st, it's lined up for success. The cherry on top is needs/wants line up strengths in this draft.

If he accomplishes this among with outside division struggles- panthers will be back in competition for playoffs.

Just to add 100% of nfl teams have been using analytics for many years. This new position is just another person in the group.

To some degree, yes. I have a feeling that Tepper and his background in investing has a very different idea for how the Panthers can incorporate analytics. He comes from a world that is analytics on top analytics.
