Panthers hiring a head of football research

Recommended Posts

The Head of Football Research will direct a small team in analyzing data and providing insights on all aspects of football operations, including game preparation, in-game decision-making, player evaluation, athlete performance & health, and player contracts. The Head of Football Research will work on projects to utilize data from multiple sources to build and develop statistical models to analyze the game of football, identify areas of improvement within football operations, and explore methods and strategies for achieving such improvements. This individual will also be responsible for communication of analytical results to the appropriate parties in football operations (e.g. via reports, presentations, etc.) and will work closely with the Panthers’ IT department and development team to integrate these results into existing frameworks.

Soon football will be coached by robots

Sorry, jfra, I meant to quote hepcat's reply about football being played by robots.

Cyberball is an Atari Games arcade game of 7-man American football, using robotic avatars of different speeds, sizes, and skill sets set in the year 2022. The game replaced the standard downs system with an explosive ball that progresses from "cool" to "warm", "hot", and "critical" status as it is used. Players can only defuse the ball, resetting it from its current state back to "cool" by crossing the 50 yard line or by change of possession, whether through touchdown, interception or fumble. A robot holding a critical ball while being tackled is destroyed along with the ball. The robots also possess finite durability. As offensive units are tackled, they wear down, finally issuing smoke and then flames after a number of hits. A flaming robot will explode when hit, thereby fumbling the ball. Players can upgrade robots with faster and more durable units using money bonuses they earn during play. Players select from run, pass or option plays on offense, after which the computer presents four individual plays from which to choose. On defense, a player can select short, medium or long defenses, and then select a specific defensive scheme. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberball

I wish thwy would've made this move sooner to be able to apply this to the draft.

I believe that Tepper is looking 5-10 years down the road, so it’ll be some time before we any major impact. He was pretty open telling the media that he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. He’ll need a few years worth of data before he can really determine what changes will be needed long term. While this behavior should be expected from a guy like him, it’ll still be a tough wait for us fans.

I thought this was already in place.  So we are giving Hurney free will to pick whatever position transfer player he wants??  SMH. Tepper  should have pulled the reigns on this before now.

Better not see another Gualden with Harrison still on the board. SMH.

With the early success of Moore, Jackson, and Thomas I'm not going to beat Hurney up too bad over Gaulden. I didn't like the pick and early returns don't look promising, but if you hit on 3 of your top 4 picks year in and year our you're gonna be just fine.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
