Panther's sign Chris Hogan WR

I agree, it makes even less sense to keep Smith around.  And yes, Samuel is faster.  I was in favor of freeing up that $5 million in cap space even before the Hogan signing.  As for the injury insurance for Samuel, I think that's why the team signed Ross.  The whole notion of a 'veteran presence in the position group room' can surely be handled by Wright and now Hogan. Retaining Smith makes zero sense at this point.

Been a while since we've had a experienced vet WR that is reliable since Cotchery.

Jarius Wright was very dependable catching the ball last season.

Top catch % (receptions divided by targets) for Carolina WRs that were regular starters last season?  Wright at 72.9%.

Lowest?  Torrey Smith at 54.8%.

Chris Hogans catch % with New England and Tom Brady last season?  63.6%.

(Other NFL catch %'s from 2018: Michael Thomas 85%, Stefon Diggs 68.5%, Calvin Ridley 69.6%, Brandin Cooks 68.4%, Julian Edelman 68.5%)

Catch rate can be a misleading stat, and therefore should always be taken with a big grain of salt.

Don't think Chris Hogan had a good 2018 season but believe he can be an effective limited role player as a vertical threat and slant/flat route runner if you get him away from press. Here's his 2017 #ReceptionPerception route charts:

Brady didn’t have a great season either. Is was very unPatriotic.
