I could argue just to argue, but this is a pretty good post.

I find the whole “NC vs SC” battle hilarious, as I’ve got family members who even get involved. My father will poke fun at my mom for having most of her fam in SC and basically being from there.

Only cities from both states I’d even consider living in are Charlotte, Greensboro, or Charleston. Maybe Winston Salem, but that’s because that’s home.

you probably could argue the college sports thing pretty easily.  But given this is the South....football carries more weight than it probably should.

Meh, a city is a city, all this talk about one being better than the other is mostly pointless.  I have lived in several cities, and I found good and bad in all of them.

I am perfectly happy living in Winston, mostly because I have friends and family and a good job here.  The cost of living is low, and its relatively close to some major airports, as well as beaches and mountains.  And the weather is moderate.  I have been to Charleston a lot, and while I enjoy visiting, I have no desire to live there.

But I can see the appeal of Charleston if I wanted to go to a different over priced bar or restaurant every night.  Maybe if I was younger, that kind of stuff might mean something.

If I had to pick another city in the Carolinas to live in, it would no doubt be Charlotte, mainly because of the job market there is suited to my career/experience level.

Charleston is more than bars and restaurants. I wouldn't mind raising a family on the other side of the airport in the West Ashley part of town. Downtown would be nice to visit from time to time. Beaches are relatively close, Florida and North Carolina are both a reasonable drive.

One place I wouldn't live is in Winston. I live in Greensboro now and Winston is just a bit too much like Bergentown from Trolls to me.

Have no idea what bergentown from trolls is, but to each his own.   Fwiw, I have lived in several ocean front towns and cities, only one I missed after I left was Kailua Hawaii.

A fellow Winston-Salemite :)

There’s no place like home.

100% agreed. I have little use for cities. I live about 40 minutes west and 2500' up from Denver. Close enough to be able to get there, far enough away to forget it exists when I don't need to be there.

I'll probably eventually move back to the Carolinas in the next couple of years and I'll be looking at Asheville, Brevard, Morganton, and Greenville. I need my mountain access.

If you haven't been to Hunting Island you're missing out. Hunting Island/Beaufort is probably my favorite area of SC these days.

Hunting got clobbered by the hurricane. One of our favorite spots :(

I don't see why ANY player would move just because the team practice facility moved. Same for the staff, as far as that goes. Does an edict come down from Tepper saying everyone has to pack it up and head south? It's actually a pretty nice reverse commute if you live in NC and work in SC.

West Ashley is very hit and miss. There are areas that are worse than North Charleston. North Charleston is actually improving quite a bit (especially around the Park Circle area). If you're raising a family though, there's not a better place in Charleston than Hanahan.

Charlotte is a 3.5 hour drive, Asheville is close to 4. Disney is about 6, but with stop it takes closer to 8.

The big problem Charleston has right now is so many people are coming in that its losing some of the very appeal that brought those people to Charleston in the first place. Our infrastructure isn't ready and its showing in traffic, flooding and other issues that I'm not sure our current leadership is equipped to solve. We politicians to come from bigger cities to show us how they navigated the issues, but there's no way our current leadership would listen.

I still love living here and I've turned down job offers to work elsewhere, but this isn't the town I grew up in anymore.

As someone who travels both states weekly, they both are essentially the same. It's funny hearing each side comparing which state is better.

People out side both states probably couldnt tell the difference or laugh if asked to tell the difference
